Lead Data Scientist
MORSE is an innovative, employee-owned, tech company located in Kendall Square in Cambridge, MA specializing in solving multi-disciplinary problems faced by the US National Security Ecosystem. Our specially selected team of engineers, software developers and scientists develop algorithms, software integrated prototypes and solutions for Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Manned and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, Mission Planning, and Situational Awareness.
Job Summary
As a Lead Data Scientist at MORSE, you will be leading teams of engineers, developers, and data scientists to develop and deploy capabilities to address highly complex Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning challenges. You will lead small teams through an Agile development process, maintain schedules, and provide overall technical direction for successful completion of projects. Externally, you will maintain customer relationships and serve as a subject matter expert. This candidate should have expertise in data science and algorithm development in one or more of a variety of fields including computer vision, big data, natural language processing, time series data, and advanced metrics.
Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will have a strong and diverse software background with a proven record of successfully managing technical projects with a strong background in data science. The candidate will lead data science tasks that will either use machine learning directly or process the outputs of machine learning algorithms. The candidate’s team will take a holistic approach to algorithm development to ensure the most value add to the warfighter. This includes considering not just the algorithm itself, but the whole system including labels, software infrastructure, and user interface. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have experience leading teams in a small company, and therefore be well equipped to take on various roles.
Skills and Requirements
The ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or a related field
At least 5 years of relevant experience
Expertise using Python to solve data science problems
Solid understanding of physics, linear algebra, statistics, algorithms, optimization, and/or machine learning methods
Demonstrated performance in managing program schedules to successful program conclusion in an Agile environment.
Proven record interfacing with customers and developing external relationships.
Desired Skills
Experience using cloud services
Experience with data management pipeline technology
Experience evaluating the quality of advanced models
Interest in pursuing ethical AI principles
Direct computer vision or natural language processing experience is a plus
