Director of Data Science

We’re looking for a talented leader for our data science and data science infrastructure (data engineering, and machine learning operations) teams. This team owns the end to end development of our business’s core product features that enable our members to understand their sleep, recovery, and workout behaviors. We’re looking for someone with a proven track record leading a cross-functional team, who is able to identify new opportunities to leverage our large and growing dataset, and is excited to work with physiological data.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collaborate with your technical leaders and product leadership to strategize, roadmap, prioritize, and execute on team deliverables.
- Manage the full development life cycle of advanced statistical and machine learning models and algorithms, and the tooling that supports the development and productization, for product features
- Communicate results to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Develop, manage and scale the data science and data science infrastructure teams and their processes; evangelize these processes and best practices across the organization.
- Take ownership of key technology decisions in partnership with the data science and data science infrastructure technical leads.
- Reports to the VP of Data Science and Research
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field
- 8+ years of full-time professional experience in a related area
- 8+ years experience applying advanced mathematical and statistical techniques
- 2+ years of success leading a team of diversely skilled data scientists and engineers
- Experience managing data science and engineering managers preferred
- Proficient in scientific Python, production data science and data engineering
- Ability to formulate hypotheses, draw conclusions and deliver results
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to present findings to stakeholders and communicate results to all colleagues
- Excitement to work in a high energy, high growth start up environment
- Understanding of exercise physiology or athletic experience is preferred

This role is based in the WHOOP office located in Boston, MA. The successful candidate must be prepared to relocate if necessary to work out of the Boston, MA office.
