Indigo’s Data Governance team seeks to ensure that business stakeholders, data analysts, data scientists, and software engineers alike can find and trust our data. Our stack consists of Fivetran, custom pipelines, a DBT-like modeling layer, Snowflake, and Looker, and we’re currently developing an overlay of data discovery and governance services.

As a Data Governance Manager, you will collaborate with subject-matter experts from across the business to promote a culture of knowledge sharing, deliver instruction and create documentation to drive the adoption of best practices and policies, and gather detailed requirements to continuously improve Indigo’s data platform services.

This is an exciting opportunity for a data enthusiast who is energized by complex environments and excels at keeping people and processes organized and aligned.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the evaluation, implementation, and ongoing development of data discovery and observability solutions, including a data catalog and data quality monitoring tools
  • Administer governance policies and standards, such as access controls, data masking, and terms of use, developed in partnership with the Legal, Information Security, and People teams
  • Manage intake and prioritization of data sourcing requests from across the business
  • Deliver clear technical requirements for data pipelines and data platform tooling to the Infrastructure team, to ensure data integrity, ease of use, and standards of service
  • Define key business terms and concepts, in collaboration with the Analytics Engineering team, business process owners, and subject-matter experts, to promote the adoption of a common language across Indigo
  • Design and deliver data platform end-user communications and instruction sessions tailored to different roles and skill sets
  • Evangelize data-driven decision-making and influence best practices for data development at Indigo

Competencies:

  • Ability to articulate how data governance supports business strategy, how data are produced and used in business processes and software applications, and how the use or misuse of data can impact the business
  • Experience with a wide range of data sources, data collection methods, and data models
  • Experience managing projects or workflows using software like Jira or ServiceNow
  • Ability to contextualize problem statements, collect requirements, and iterate on proposed solutions in response to feedback
  • Ability to plan and execute projects independently, while communicating and escalating issues as appropriate
  • Understanding of data lifecycles (e.g. access, archiving, cost of data management) and data integrity issues, and the ability to communicate these considerations to support decisions
  • Ability to identify risks and appropriate controls concerning sensitive or critical data
  • Experience generating metrics to evaluate the performance of services, compliance with policy, data quality, user satisfaction, etc.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to act as a liaison and translator between business and technical communities

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of relevant industry experience, including two or more of the following:
    • Building, administering, or using metadata management systems (e.g. Collibra, Atlan, Secoda, Amundsen, DataHub), including data observability tools (e.g. Montecarlo, Great Expectations)
    • Researching, evaluating, and acquiring data sources
    • Managing data subscription contracts and licenses
    • Building or managing data pipelines
    • Evaluating and partnering with software vendors
    • Creating or maintaining controlled vocabularies, glossaries, taxonomies
    • Developing policies and systems to support data governance and/or compliance objectives
  • Basic to intermediate understanding of SQL, data modeling techniques, and schema design

Bonus points if you have:

  • Bachelor’s or Master's in Library and Information Science (MLIS), Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field of study
  • Spanish or Portuguese language skills

Location

On the edge of Charlestown, we are within walking distance to restaurants and bars. The Sullivan Square T and bus stop is also right next door! We are currently working remote/hybrid with the exception of our fantastic Biotrinsic team who work from the office and lab space here.
