Data Governance Consultant
POSITION SUMMARY:
MassMutual has recognized the importance of an Enterprise Privacy, Data and AI Governance program and we are looking for a skilled and highly motivated individual with strong servant leadership and data governance background to join this Enterprise Privacy, Data and AI Governance team within the Enterprise Technology Experience organization. The team embodies a culture of working collaboratively, cross-functionally, and using new technologies all in support of a culture of innovation and collaboration.
The Data Governance Consultant will be a key contributor in Data Governance Platform team, drive requirement and building out platforms to support data governance policies, processes and standards to ensure high levels of data quality, integrity, availability, security and usability across the enterprise. Key focus areas include data quality, metadata management and master/reference data management. In addition to deep understanding of Data Governance, strong communication and influencing skills are necessary in this role.

This role is based out of our Boston, MA office and will work in cross-functional teams collaborating with subject matter experts across the enterprise.
Key Responsibilities:
General Data Governance Practice
- Apply knowledge of industry Data Governance, quality and operations practices, models and frameworks to inform the growth and evolution of the Enterprise Data Governance Program
- Support the development of training, support and communications materials
- Contribute to the overall maturation of the Data (governance) strategy through active contribution and insights gained through industry and practical knowledge
- Assist in the definition and application of oversight mechanisms to include standards development, design of control structures, monitoring processes and related operating rhythms
- Act as a knowledgeable advocate and networking agent for the enterprise program
Policies and Standards
- Manage the overall production, approval, monitoring and controllership of enterprise data governance standards and policies
- Author (or coordinate the authorship of) all scheduled data standards/policies
- Coordinate the approval, adoption and monitoring/enforcement of defined enterprise Data Governance policies and standards
- Design and implement controls for the monitoring and enforcement of approved and adopted standards/policies
- Identify all existing related or overlapping data policies/standards currently in-force at MassMutual to ensure proper alignment where necessary
- Coordinate the regular review, recertification and/or adjustment of approved policies/standards as part of enhanced BAU process to include update and maintenance within Archer
- Ensure regular reporting knowledge and awareness of new or changed policies/standards or related oversight practices
- Represent policy requirements at various forums, project teams and committees
- Function as an advisor advocate for the business to the central Data Governance program
- Develop monitoring controls to ensure adherence to defined roles and responsibilities
Data Quality
- Support the design and delivery of Data Quality Dashboards and quality solutions tied to clearly understood business problem(s) and benefit(s)
- Communicate standards/guidelines and implement necessary training for end-to-end governance of data and meeting our data governance objectives
- Assist in establish metrics and monitor performance of data management processes over time against defined objectives
- Guide users in adopting data quality best practices, including:
- The Data Quality Improvement life cycle, establishing data quality SLA
- Support the day-day execution of the Data Quality dashboard as well as anticipate new issues and functionalities. Work to understand Data Quality agenda across the enterprise and its upstream data providers
- Provide consistent communications to the stakeholder community on Data Quality to ensure transparency on new features, existing challenges, and use case successes
- Identify opportunities for improvement and incorporate it in data standards and processes
- Contribute to standards and guidelines in support of data management processes for monitoring and improving data quality, metadata management and master/reference data management
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree
- 7+ years of data management experience including monitoring and improving data quality management and master/reference data management within the Financial Services industry
- Superior knowledge of Data Governance frameworks and industry practices
- Strong leadership and organizational awareness with ability to facilitate and resolve conflicts
- Strong written and oral communication skills to motivate and influence staff and customers
- Strong understanding of data management concepts, principles and practices
- Deep familiarity with data policy/standards development and management practices
- Exceptional analytical, conceptual and problem-solving abilities
- Mid-Senior level competency in regulatory compliance, risk and issue management; to include controls assurance and controls design
