Competitive Research Consultant ? Life Underwriting & Operations
This position reports to the Head of Industry Intelligence at MassMutual.
The Life Underwriting and Digital Ops Competitive Consultant will support the Life Insurance Portfolio by providing industry insights on product features, riders, platforms, underwriting programs and service experience. They will develop deep partnerships across Product & Marketing, Underwriting, Distribution and Wholesalers to drive the Life business forward by supporting Underwriting and Operations. This person will proactively address issues associated with competitors and markets (both existing and future), that may affect MassMutual?s strategy, business operations and growth objectives. The successful candidate will be able to:
- Build Intelligence framework to support tracking/analyzing both underwriting and operational activity of competitors
- Develop Battlecards and other intelligence tools to favorably position MassMutual?s underwriting and digital value proposition; establish metrics and feedback loop for continuous improvement
- Track emerging trends/leading indicators with a potential impact to MassMutual?s Life Portfolio (future casting)
- Develop value chain analyses to evaluate market leaders, market losers and new entrants
- Reconcile market activity to MassMutual?s strategy to uncover sustainable competitive advantages
- Recommend UW or operational changes to align with the market and strategic shifts
- Deploy intelligence tools and track usage/impact (metrics)
Role Characteristics & Responsibilities
- Collaborates with internal clients to identify intelligence needs
- Consults with stakeholders on core issues and watch list items
- Develops and maintains a network of external industry contacts to proactively monitor the marketplace and ethically acquire information
- Distills information into concise summaries and tools for diverse internal audiences
- Produces detailed competitive underwriting and operations benchmarks?
- Handles projects with a sense of urgency based on business prioritization
Qualifications
- 7+ years of relevant work experience in Life Insurance
- Mastery knowledge of individual life insurance practices, underwriting standards and operations
- Ability to interpret large sets of data and effectively communicate data trends
- Ability to partner with key constituents to support strategic and tactical development
- Confident, comfortable communicator with strong written and verbal communication skills
- A motivated, self-starter with a demonstrated track record of consistently meeting and/or exceeding performance expectations
- Ability to think strategically and influence others
- Intrapreneur mindset
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)?
