Work Arrangement : This role is categorized as Hybrid . This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren - GM Global Technical Center - three times per week, at minimum or other frequency dictated by the business
The EV Dangerous Goods SME will serve as the global lead knowledge center for all EV-related dangerous goods regulations. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance, providing regulatory updates, and supporting documentation and training for the Dangerous Goods team and broader organization.
As the EV Dangerous Goods SME, you will:
  • Lead the creation and maintenance of EV dangerous goods documentation, ensuring global regulatory compliance.
  • Act as the primary trainer for the team, developing and delivering training on EV dangerous goods handling, 49 CFR regulations, and best practices.
  • Provide timely updates on global EV dangerous goods regulations and ensure the team's knowledge remains current.
  • Support documentation updates and serve as the subject matter expert for regulatory and technical content.
  • Serve as the UN38.3 testing lead, overseeing compliance and test processes for EV batteries.
  • Own the Dangerous Goods Test Summary Database and act as gatekeeper for all EV dangerous goods records.
  • Support the EVOS team and provide guidance to dealerships on EV dangerous goods matters.
  • Represent the Dangerous Goods team as the global authority on EV dangerous goods regulations, interfacing with regulatory agencies and industry partners.

What You'll Do:
  • Advise on the safe handling, storage, and transportation of EV batteries and components, ensuring compliance with global and regional dangerous goods regulations (including ADR for Europe).
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of EV technologies, industry trends, and regulatory changes.
  • Support incident investigations and root cause analyses related to EVs and batteries.
  • Represent the company at industry forums, regulatory meetings, and technical workshops.
  • This job is not eligible for relocation benefits. Any relocation costs would be the responsibility of the selected candidate

Additional Description
Required Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of post graduate experience in dangerous goods compliance
  • In-depth knowledge of global dangerous goods regulations (including 49 CFR, IATA, IMDG or UN38.3).
  • Proven experience developing and delivering technical training.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with documentation management and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to travel as needed (~25%).

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree or professional certification in EV technology or hazardous materials management (Certified Dangerous Goods Professional, CDGP).
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Chemistry, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • Experience with lithium-ion battery recycling and end-of-life management.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex projects.
