The Role
We are seeking a Research Technician - Electronics to support an electronics-based research and development lab. This role involves planning, developing, and assembling vehicle and equipment test setups, as well as evaluating test results. The technician will investigate mechanical and electrical operational issues in products and components and recommend effective corrective actions to improve performance and reliability.
What You'll Do
- Apply electronics theory and principles of operation of electrical, electro-mechanical and mechanical systems and sub-systems for research vehicle builds
- Troubleshoot circuits, sensors, transducers, motors, actuators, etc., commonly used in laboratory environment
- Read and understand technical data, electrical diagrams, and schematics, as well as design and fabricate unique test instrumentation for use in research laboratory environment
- Create research vehicle builds and manufacture wiring harnesses, build custom test fixture boxes, Utilize 3D Printing for hardware mounts
- Install, setup, operate, and troubleshoot test support equipment such as data I/O, power conditioning and measurement systems, fluid (air, oil, coolant) conditioning systems, fluid measurement, electric motors, various communications protocols etc.
- Troubleshoot and repair of motor control circuits and equipment including VFD's for rotating equipment
- Maintain and repair laboratory test instrumentation
- Use research test equipment for calibration, automated testing, data logging, etc.
- Apply temperature controllers, PID loops, 4-20 mA current loops and all other closed loop feedback systems
- Familiar with glove boxes with antechambers, battery cyclers, environmental thermal chambers and associated interface systems used in battery cell development/testing
- Operate general machine shop and material fabrication tools following all safe operating procedures

- Associate degree in electronics / instrumentation, electronics technology, engineering technology and/or 3+ years of relevant work experience in a research laboratory test environment or as an instrumentation service technician
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and collaborate effectively across diverse teams

- Bachelor's degree or 7+ years of relevant work experience
- Familiar with principles of preventative maintenance and calibration techniques consistent with ISO 17025
- Vehicle software specific tools e.g. neoVI Fire 2, VSpy3, Vehicle Verification Tool, DPS
- Familiar with Arduino development environment (IDE), utilizing Python or C++
- Familiar with National Instruments LabView graphical programming
