In this Counsel, Autonomous Vehicles role you will work at the cutting edge of transportation law, advising our engineering, safety, and public policy teams working to bring transformational autonomous driving technology to personally owned vehicles. You will provide strategic legal advice that will help drive our business lines forward from technology ideation to scaled commercial sales. You will provide advice to various teams throughout General Motors working to transform lives and shape the future of the automotive industry by helping to ensure compliance with an increasingly complex and dynamic range of federal, state, and even global regulations.
You will:
  • Provide proactive advice and product counseling to safety, product, and engineering teams on the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Act, NHTSA regulations, and state laws impacting the safety and deployment of advanced automated driving systems and vehicle designs.

  • Partner and advise GM's public policy and safety teams on federal and state engagements and strategy to transform and modernize complex regulatory regimes.

  • Advise on both internal and external responses, communications, and strategies related to regulatory inquiries and product safety assessments.

  • Participate as a member of the legal incident response team.

  • Manage outside counsel review of regulatory compliance work.

  • Advise and collaborate with other legal teams to help drive forward commercial and strategic corporate agreements.

You have:
  • JD Degree from an ABA accredited law school and member of a state bar.

  • 4+ years of prior regulatory, product counseling, or litigation experience with at least 2+ years with a law firm.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with an ability to express complex legal matters in a clear, concise, and business-friendly way.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to manage a significant workload with competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to efficiently resolve issues and recommend solutions that are legally sound and pragmatic in the context of business goals.

  • Knowledge and experience advising technology or automotive companies on complex regulatory compliance issues, including product and potential litigation risk.

  • Enthusiastic attitude and one-team mentality for winning together as a team, driving achievement and legal rigor while balancing business goals, and working collaboratively with legal and non-legal stakeholders.

Location: This role is based remotely but if you live within a 50-mile radius of (Atlanta, Austin, Detroit, Warren, Milford or Mountain View), you are expected to report to that location three times a week, at minimum.
Compensation:
The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws.
The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position, as well as geography of the selected candidate.
  • The salary range for this role is $110,00 - $172,100. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
  • Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
