Job Summary

The future is bright for the Porch Group, and we’d love for you to be a part of it as our Corporate Counsel, Insurance.

You will be a key partner and trusted advisor to the Insurance organization, reporting to the General Counsel and leading the Insurance legal and compliance team. This role works with our legal team on a wide variety of matters of significant importance to the organization, and brings the in-depth experience and proven ability to lead efforts that resolve complex issues. You will own multiple strategic legal and regulatory initiatives and support senior leadership decision making on risk and business trade-offs. Within the Insurance Division, you will help turn Porch’s strategic objectives into approvals secured, market launches and strong examination results.

What You Will Do As A Corporate Counsel, Insurance
  • Independently provide legal counsel to senior leadership, including the carrier's executive team, to support business objectives and mitigate regulatory, compliance and litigation risk to Porch.
  • Lead and develop the Insurance legal and compliance team, setting priorities, managing performance, and supporting hiring and growth.
  • Own multiple, increasingly complex strategic legal and regulatory initiatives tied to company strategy.
  • Prepare and review insurance related filings covering new products, quarterly and annual reports, governance reports and more.
  • Lead the Insurance division secretarial function, including preparation of materials for the insurance carrier's Board of Directors and Committee meetings.
  • Lead cross-functional programs with Finance, Product, Compliance, and Claims that drive business outcomes such as approvals secured, market launches, and examination results.
  • Proactively monitor and analyze changes in laws, regulations and industry, and advise appropriate organizational leadership of such changes in a timely manner.
  • Anticipate potential or future legal and operational issues that present a risk to the organization, and proactively engage with others to identify potential solutions.
  • Build and maintain the Insurance legal and compliance framework, including policies, filing processes, and governance playbooks, and develop best practices that can serve as Porch standards.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders and varying levels of leadership, including executive and possibly Board audiences, in both verbal and written forms.
  • Produce clear and concise legal positions involving highly complex issues.
  • Manage outside counsel to obtain legal advice.
What You Will Bring As A Corporate Counsel, Insurance
  • J.D. with active bar membership in the US.
  • 3-5 years of experience in Texas, at a law firm, government, insurance regulator, and/or in-house role, including insurance regulatory experience and experience leading legal or compliance workstreams.
  • Direct experience with insurance regulatory matters, including state DOI filings, rate and form approvals, market conduct, or InsurTech operations.
  • Flexible, solution-oriented, collaborative mindset.
  • Experience effectively managing outside counsel.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Experience managing, mentoring, or developing team members.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with executive audiences and support senior leadership decision making on matters of risk.
  • Track record of leading multifaceted, cross-functional initiatives that drive successful business results.
  • Experience building scalable legal and compliance frameworks, policies, and best practices.
  • Up-to-date understanding of the key legal issues germane to an insurance organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts to non-lawyers.
  • Proficiency in managing multiple priorities, projects, and stakeholders.
  • Outstanding judgment and integrity, and the ability to balance complex matters independently.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships across the Company, and provide practical counsel and solutions.
