As a Vice President, Control Manager in the Home Lending organization within Consumer and Community Banking, you will lead the design and evolution of an enhanced control framework that supports continuous, integrated risk assessment. Job responsibilities
- Lead the design, execution, and ongoing enhancement of controls across the mortgage lifecycle, including originations, fulfillment, closing, servicing, and default operations
- Evaluate regulatory and operational risks within mortgage lending and develop strategies to strengthen the control environment
- Provide oversight and effective challenge for risk assessments, control evaluations, issue management, and remediation to meet internal standards and regulatory expectations
- Partner with business, Compliance, Legal, Operational Risk, Audit, and Technology stakeholders to identify control gaps and implement sustainable solutions
- Support regulatory examinations, internal audits, and control testing by providing subject matter expertise and ensuring remediation is completed effectively
- Monitor key risk and control indicators, industry trends, and regulatory developments to proactively identify risks and drive continuous improvement
- Lead root cause analysis for control failures, regulatory issues, customer impacts, and process breakdowns, and oversee corrective action implementation
- Drive governance routines, executive reporting, and senior leadership risk discussions to provide transparency into the control environment
- Leverage data analytics, automation, and technology to anticipate trends, translate business needs into solutions, and improve control effectiveness
- Strengthen operational resilience by partnering on anti-fraud and cybersecurity control priorities relevant to Home Lending processes
- Lead, coach, and develop a diverse team while fostering a culture of operational excellence, innovation, and accountability
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- 7 years of experience in financial services with background in controls, audit, compliance, and/or operational risk management and/or Home Lending
- Strong knowledge of mortgage servicing and/or originations processes and related regulatory requirements
- Demonstrated ability to make independent, risk-based decisions and apply sound judgment in complex situations
- Experience designing, improving, and operating control frameworks and escalation procedures
- Experience with control execution, control evaluations, risk assessments, process mapping, and control testing
- Proven ability to lead issue identification, escalation, root cause analysis, and remediation planning/execution
- Strong stakeholder management skills, including partnering across Compliance, Legal, Operational Risk, Audit, and Technology
- Strong communication and presentation skills, including executive-ready written and verbal updates
- Strong analytical skills, including the ability to interpret data, challenge assumptions, evaluate trade-offs, and drive decisions
- Deep understanding of mortgage regulatory requirements, including TRID, RESPA, TILA, HMDA, ECOA, fair lending, UDAAP, and related consumer protection requirements
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Experience strengthening policies and procedures by interpreting regulatory requirements in ambiguous scenarios
- Experience building data-driven business cases to prioritize control enhancements and remediation
- Demonstrated ability to identify and implement automation opportunities to improve control performance and monitoring
- Experience developing key risk and control indicators and using them to drive proactive risk management
- Prior experience supporting significant regulatory examinations and complex audit engagements
- Experience leading teams through change management for complex operational and control initiatives
- Experience establishing knowledge-sharing routines, repositories, and lessons-learned practices to prevent recurrence
