The Motley Fool is looking for a highly skilled AI-assisted financial content writer. This role will be on a contract basis and we are looking for someone who can commit a minimum of 10 hours per week.

This contract opportunity is flexible and 100% remote, but candidates must reside in the United States for consideration.

Who are We?

The Motley Fool is a purpose-driven financial services company on a mission to make the world smarter, happier, and richer. For 30 years we’ve been helping people make better investment decisions through transparency, education, and Foolish fun. We’re a fast-moving, collaborative team that values high-quality work, curiosity, and initiative. We care deeply about what we do, and we’re driven by the impact our work has on real people’s financial futures.

What does this team do?

The Fool.com editorial team works to provide informative and impactful investor-driven content for our readers. It’s important to us that this content is not only Foolishly insightful, but also accurate, and that’s where you’ll come in.

What Will You Do in This Role?

You will review, write and publish hundreds of articles each month with the assistance of AI. You will navigate our content management system where we will have articles waiting based on recent news events like insiders buying or selling shares, a company paying a dividend, or having recently filed earnings.

Our AI engine will have assembled all of the salient details and figures into the document for you to review. You will perform a quick fact check, and then write 150-300 words of Foolish context that guides readers through how to contextualize this information. If the CEO sells $400 of stock in a planned sale… not a big deal. If they cut their shares by 70% right before earnings, that’s something investors should pay attention to. We’re looking to you for critical context!

You must be financially savvy, interested in investing, self motivated, have attention to detail, and understand the principles of Foolish investing (buy great companies, hold them for the long run, and be optimistic). And if you’ve got a passion for LLMs and AI technologies – even better.

Okay, but what will you actually do in this role?

  • Navigate our CMS to review AI-generated article drafts
  • Perform a quick fact check to ensure the facts are accurate
  • Write a few paragraphs of reaction to the data provided with insight for readers that reflects our investing principles. Help them understand if this news event is meaningful, noise, or something in between.
  • Edit AI-generated content for accuracy, clarity, and substance (not copyediting!)
  • Provide substantive feedback based on your edits and observations so our prompt engineers can improve the outputs

Required Experience:

  • A solid understanding of financial concepts, terminology, and the global financial landscape.
  • Strong grasp of Foolish investing principles and our brand voice.
  • Experience in journalism, editing, or related fields, with a strong grasp of news writing, AP style, and journalistic ethics.
  • Proficiency in fact-checking methodologies and techniques to verify information, data, and sources used in financial articles.
  • Strong research skills to gather information from various sources, databases, and financial reports to support fact-checking and editing tasks.
  • Familiarity with digital tools, fact-checking software, content management systems (CMS), and other technology used in financial publishing.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to interact with writers, editors, and stakeholders.
  • The ability to work under deadlines and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Understanding of LLMs and AI tools and familiarity on reading and interpreting a prompt
Hourly Pay Range
$50$50 USD

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
