The Compensation Specialist is an independent contributor and responsible for assisting with the development and administration of the compensation plan for Energy Solutions that is consistent with the mission, vision, and values of the organization. This position is an integral member of the People and Culture (PC) team, and is primarily responsible for participation in compensation surveys, conducting market reviews, administration of ongoing and routine compensation adjustments, bonus programs, and audits.  This position is instrumental in ensuring our compensation practices are competitive and equitable. 

The ideal candidate will live near one of our office locations (Oakland CA, Orange CA, Portland, Chicago, Boston) and will report on-site weekly. Remote applicants residing in other parts of the U.S. will also be considered, except from the following states: Alaska, Delaware, Kentucky, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Wyoming. 

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Conduct job evaluations and market analysis to determine appropriate salary ranges for various positions within the organization. 
  • Gather data from market-based compensation surveys; uses spreadsheet and data analysis techniques to assess results and market trends. 
  • Generate reports and provide data and analysis including compensation data insights. 
  • Develop and implement competitive compensation plans and policies. 
  • Ensure job descriptions and position titles are consistent with job level and exemption status. 
  • Develop and support the annual salary review process, including coordinating with department leads to ensure accurate and timely completion of salary adjustments. 
  • Advise PC Leadership on applicable federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., OFFCP requirements, FLSA, ERISA, pay equity laws). 
  • Assist with the maintenance of job description assessments and classifications. 
  • Evaluate and recommend salary increases and other compensation changes. 
  • Participate in and advise on employee recognition and total reward programs. 
  • Liaise between department leads and the payroll and benefits team to ensure accuracy of compensation. 
  • Research and recommend methods to control compensation costs. 
  • Collaborate with the PC leadership team to develop competitive compensation offers for new hires. 
  • Maintain and update compensation data and records, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality. 
  • Troubleshoot compensation-related inquiries.  
  • Perform other miscellaneous projects and duties as needed. 


Minimum Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field.  
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience as a lead Compensation Specialist or similar role.  
  • Knowledge of current California laws and regulations related to compensation.  
  • Intermediate proficiency in HRIS systems, Data analysis tools, and Microsoft Office, especially Excel.  
  • Experience in leveraging Tableau to analyze compensation data, create dynamic dashboards, and support data-driven decision-making.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply basic statistical interpretation to compensation analysis. 
  • Foundational knowledge in compensation job architecture.  
  • Experience writing job descriptions.  
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.  
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.  
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.  
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.   


Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Previous experience with Workday 
  • SHRM-CP or PHR certification 
  • Working knowledge of Tableau 
  • Certified Compensation Professional 


Salary is commensurate with experience within the pay band of $87,000 to $110,000/Annually   

Compensation is commensurate with experience and includes a generous retirement package. Energy Solutions provides an excellent benefits package including medical, dental and vision insurance, other pre-tax contribution plans and an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).

Office Locations and a Remote Workforce

Energy Solutions operates as a predominantly remote workforce with offices in  six different locations. Employees who reside within 40 miles of an office (except New York) will be assigned to that location, though in-office attendance requirements may vary by team.
