The Community Relations Assistant provides administrative support, manages correspondence, assists with events, and coordinates community engagement activities. This role requires multitasking and excellent communication skills.
DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW:
The Community, Alumni, and Player Relations department at the Boston Red Sox oversees community outreach for the club, and in particular its players, coaches and front office, by connecting them with the local community and charitable causes. We do so by fostering relationships with team members to learn their passions and focuses, and align those with nonprofit organizations and causes that best fit their interests and strengths. Additionally, this department maintains the connection between the historic franchise and its hundreds of former uniformed personnel.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Community Relations Assistant will provide administrative support to the Community Relations department. The person in this role will also be responsible for assisting members of the department with planning and executing ad hoc tasks and projects as assigned. This position is a two-year term.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Track and respond to all Community Relations (CR) correspondence – phone lines, USPS, e-mail, voicemails –directed to CR.
- Address and fulfill all in-kind donation requests while maintaining an updated inventory of autographed items.
- Assist with game day and non-game day CR field events, including coordinating logistics, securing and managing equipment, working with non-profit organizations on their needs and helping to promote the events.
- Meet CR groups and lead guided tours.
- Assist with community tickets distribution.
- Tracking all photos from CR events for annual report.
- Assist with employee volunteerism, including creating opportunities, recruiting participants and executing activities.
- Oversee Community Homestand, Medical All-Star and Most Valuable Educator programs.
CHARACTERISTICS / QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Strong commitment to providing a high level of customer service.
- Ability to multitask, problem solve and manage unanticipated situations.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays.
- Prior work experience within fast-paced, unstructured and frequently changing environments required.
- Must maintain a professional appearance and phone demeanor.
- Must be able to lift and move boxes of ~40 pounds.
