Description

Are you a commercial credit professional who enjoys looking beyond the numbers?

SCU Credit Union is looking for a Commercial Credit Analyst to join our Commercial Lending team. This is an exciting opportunity for a detail-oriented, analytical professional who understands that great lending decisions require more than spreadsheets—they require sound judgment, curiosity, and the ability to understand the story behind a business.

In this role, you will independently analyze commercial real estate, commercial & industrial, and construction loan opportunities, as well as existing commercial relationships. You will evaluate financial performance, cash flow, collateral, guarantor strength, industry conditions, and overall risk to help SCU make well-informed lending decisions.

You’ll be an important partner to our Commercial Lending and Business Development teams, providing objective credit analysis and recommendations while helping maintain the strength and quality of SCU’s commercial loan portfolio.

What You'll Do

Analyze & Evaluate Credit

  • Review commercial loan applications, financial statements, tax returns, projections, personal financial statements, and other supporting documentation.
  • Spread and analyze financial information and identify historical trends, strengths, weaknesses, and emerging risks.
  • Evaluate borrower repayment capacity, cash flow, collateral adequacy, guarantor strength, industry risk, and proposed loan structure.
  • Perform ratio, trend, and comparative analysis to assess financial condition and creditworthiness.
  • Develop independent risk-rating opinions and make sound, judgment-based credit recommendations.
  • Approve loans within established lending authority.

Prepare Strong Credit Recommendations

  • Prepare comprehensive yet concise credit memorandums for new loans, renewals, modifications, extensions, annual reviews, and other credit decisions.
  • Clearly communicate the strengths, weaknesses, risks, and mitigating factors associated with each credit relationship.
  • Recommend appropriate loan structures and strategies to improve or strengthen commercial relationships.
  • Participate in the preparation and review of commitment letters and related loan documentation.

Manage Portfolio Risk

  • Conduct annual reviews of commercial loan relationships, including analysis of financial performance, collateral, guarantors, and overall relationship risk.
  • Monitor portfolio performance and identify early warning signs, including late payments and changes in borrower financial condition.
  • Recommend appropriate risk-rating changes when warranted.
  • Review appraisals, environmental reports, post-closing documentation, and other credit-related materials.

Partner Across the Organization

  • Work closely with Commercial Lending Officers and Business Development Officers to obtain information and clarify credit issues.
  • Provide objective credit insight while supporting the goals of the Commercial Lending team.
  • Research economic conditions, industry trends, regulatory developments, and business information that may affect borrower and portfolio risk.
  • Assist with special projects and other initiatives within the Commercial Lending Division.
