Job Summary

The Clinical Education Specialist (CES) is responsible for developing, maintaining, and expanding physician and provider referral relationships on behalf of Persante Healthcare and its client hospital partners.


The CES serves as a clinical education and referral-development resource within an assigned territory, educating referring providers and their office teams on sleep medicine diagnostic services, appropriate testing pathways, referral and ordering requirements, and the services available through Persante Healthcare's partner hospital programs.

This position requires a strong understanding of healthcare referral development, physician relationship management, and the multidisciplinary specialties that commonly identify, diagnose, or manage patients with sleep disorders. The CES will work closely with physician practices across specialties including sleep medicine, pulmonology, cardiology, neurology, otolaryngology (ENT), primary care, and dental/sleep dentistry, as well as other appropriate healthcare specialties.

The successful candidate will combine clinical knowledge, consultative relationship-building skills, market awareness, and strong follow-through to increase appropriate referrals, strengthen existing referral relationships, improve the provider experience, and support the strategic growth objectives of Persante Healthcare and its hospital partners.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify and develop prospective referral sources by evaluating the assigned region's healthcare market, identifying appropriate physician practices and provider groups, cultivating new relationships, and strengthening existing relationships.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the physician specialties, healthcare organizations, referral patterns, and market opportunities within the assigned CES territory.
  • Educate physicians, advanced practice providers, clinical staff, referral coordinators, and office personnel regarding sleep medicine diagnostic services and appropriate referral pathways available through Persante Healthcare's client hospital partners.
  • Provide education regarding appropriate sleep testing modalities, referral requirements, clinical indications, related comorbidities, and the diagnostic services available within each applicable hospital program.
  • Call on prospective referral sources to explain the clinical aspects of sleep diagnostics, relevant comorbidities, testing options, referral processes, and the advantages of Persante Healthcare/client hospital system services, with the goal of converting appropriate prospects into active referral sources.
  • Develop referral relationships across multidisciplinary specialties, including but not limited to:
    • Sleep Medicine
    • Pulmonology
    • Cardiology
    • Neurology
    • Otolaryngology/ENT
    • Primary Care/Internal Medicine
    • Family Medicine
    • Dental and Dental Sleep Medicine
    • Other specialties with patient populations at increased risk for sleep disorders
  • Maintain and grow the existing referral base through consistent communication, education, relationship management, and provider support.
  • Provide referring offices with ongoing education and resources, which may include:
    • Referral and ordering process updates
    • Sleep testing education
    • Clinical journal references and educational materials
    • Patient education brochures and resources
    • Patient status and referral follow-up information, when appropriate
    • Office-based educational in-services
    • Updates regarding hospital sleep programs and available diagnostic services
    • Other educational and operational resources necessary to support provider and client satisfaction
  • Conduct scheduled educational presentations and in-services for physician practices and healthcare organizations regarding sleep disorders, diagnostic testing, patient identification, referral pathways, and available hospital-partner services.
  • Exemplify ownership, initiative, and accountability for referral growth, provider engagement, customer service, and provider support throughout the assigned CES territory.
  • Establish measurable territory-development strategies designed to increase awareness of available sleep services and generate appropriate new referral activity.
  • Monitor referral patterns and market activity to identify opportunities for increased physician engagement, education, and referral development.
  • Accurately document physician interactions, referral-development activities, educational visits, follow-up activities, and other applicable information within the company's designated Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.
  • Maintain organized and timely follow-up with physician offices and referral sources to support relationship continuity and identify opportunities for additional education or service improvement.
  • Lead communication between physician offices, Persante Healthcare, and client hospital contacts to identify referral barriers, operational concerns, or service issues and facilitate appropriate resolution.
  • Escalate significant provider concerns, referral barriers, service issues, or market opportunities to the appropriate Persante Healthcare leadership and client-partner representatives.
  • Serve as a professional representative of both Persante Healthcare and the applicable hospital partner while interacting with providers, office personnel, hospital leadership, and community organizations.
  • Partner collaboratively with Persante Healthcare's Clinical Education, Clinical Operations, Client Success, Customer Service, Marketing, and leadership teams to support referral growth and an exceptional provider and patient experience.
  • Participate in company and hospital-partner initiatives designed to achieve organizational, clinical, referral-development, and growth objectives.
  • Participate, when appropriate, in hospital-sponsored community health fairs, physician education events, lectures, medical staff events, hospital open houses, and community outreach initiatives.
  • Maintain current knowledge of sleep medicine, sleep-related comorbidities, diagnostic testing, referral requirements, industry developments, regional competitors, and relevant healthcare-market trends.
  • Continuously strengthen consultative communication, provider-education, territory-management, and relationship-development skills.
  • Provide leadership to colleagues through the sharing of knowledge, experience, resources, effective practices, and market intelligence.
  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and compliance with all applicable Persante Healthcare, hospital-partner, HIPAA, regulatory, and organizational policies.
Qualifications

Education and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of healthcare, medical sales, physician liaison, provider relations, referral development, clinical education, or comparable healthcare experience preferred.
  • Previous experience developing relationships with physicians, medical practices, hospital systems, or healthcare organizations strongly preferred.
  • Experience within sleep medicine, diagnostic services, pulmonary medicine, cardiology, neurology, ENT, dental sleep medicine, durable medical equipment, or another related healthcare specialty is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated understanding of healthcare referral processes and physician practice operations.
  • Proven ability to develop professional relationships, educate healthcare professionals, and generate measurable referral or business growth.
  • Strong verbal, written, presentation, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate clinical concepts effectively to both clinical and non-clinical audiences.
  • Strong follow-through, accountability, time-management, and territory-management skills.
  • Comfortable working independently in the field while maintaining consistent communication and collaboration with Persante Healthcare leadership and hospital partners.
  • Experience utilizing CRM software or other physician-relationship/referral tracking systems preferred.

Travel Requirements


This is a field-based position requiring regular travel throughout the assigned territory.

  • Frequent local and regional day travel to physician offices, hospital locations, and community events
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required based upon territory needs, hospital-partner initiatives, conferences, meetings, or educational events
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required

Schedule

  • Full-Time
  • Monday through Friday
  • Primary activities occur during normal physician-office and hospital business hours
  • Occasional early morning, evening, or special-event participation may be required based upon provider or client needs

Compensation

  • Competitive base salary, paid bi-weekly
