Deadline-driven - You manage competing priorities effectively, stay organized, and consistently meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.

What You’ll Do

The Human Resource Associate will operate as part of the Cause Capacity team to deliver seamless, high-quality human resources support to our clients.  Key responsibilities may include:

Payroll and Benefits

  • Administer HRIS and payroll systems, troubleshoot issues, and help maintain accurate employee records.

  • Process client payroll, conduct payroll audits, generate reports, and investigate and resolve payroll-related issues.

  • Process employee compensation changes and ensure updates are accurately reflected in payroll and HRIS systems.

  • Support clients with benefits administration, annual open enrollment, and related employee communications.

Onboarding

  • Coordinate the onboarding process across multiple clients, from pre-onboarding activities through completion of required documentation and system setup.

  • Prepare and coordinate offer letters, background checks, new-hire communications, and employee records.

  • Enter and verify new-hire information in payroll and HRIS systems and audit onboarding records for completeness and accuracy.

  • Develop and refine onboarding processes, recommend best practices, and help clients create a consistent, positive new-hire experience.

  • Coordinate the development and delivery of new-employee orientation and onboarding programs.

Offboarding and Terminations

  • Coordinate employee offboarding, including documentation, system updates, and communication with relevant stakeholders.

  • Determine final payroll requirements and process in accordance with applicable state payroll laws.

  • Maintain accurate offboarding and termination records.

  • Identify opportunities to improve offboarding processes and documentation.

HR Policy

  • Collaborate with the HR Business Partner on HR policy development and revision.

  • Support implementation of HR policies and employee inquiries regarding established HR policies.

Compliance

  • Coordinate and administer required employee training, including annual sexual harassment prevention training.

  • Develop and deliver virtual employee training programs and maintain related documentation.

  • Help track training completion and identify outstanding compliance requirements.

Other

  • Create and maintain employee files.

  • Support project management activities and help keep client deliverables, timelines, and priorities on track.

  • Contribute to special projects and other related work as needed

What You Bring

Experience
  • 3-5 years of related human resources experience

  • Hands-on payroll processing experience

  • Current or recent experience applying California employment laws

  • Experience supporting small teams, startups, or nonprofits preferred

  • Comfortable working in a remote, fast-moving, and client-facing environment and managing multiple priorities independently

  • Hours may vary month-to-month depending on client needs.

  • You’ll work both independently and as part of the Cause Capacity team.

  • You’ll support a variety of organizations, with responsibilities and priorities shaped by each client’s needs.
