Argo is seeking a Catastrophe & Exposure Manager, reporting to the Head of Exposure Management.


Argo Insurance is part of Argo Group, an underwriter of specialty insurance products in the property and casualty market. Argo works with independent agents, wholesale brokers and retail brokerage partners to deliver collaborative solutions for niche markets.


The Catastrophe & Exposure Manager role requires a highly motivated and ambitious individual. The successful candidate will be responsible for the effective management in supporting the catastrophe modelling across Argo and American National P&C companies. Working closely with Underwriters, reviewing property submissions, ensuring data quality.  To support the team to improve and automate the end-to-end catastrophe modelling process to enable maximum process efficiency. Provide modelling support across all relevant product lines as and when necessary. Monitor outsourced functions of the modelling activities and ensure quality. Collaborate with underwriters to deliver portfolio analytics, increasing understanding of portfolio metrics and optimizing portfolio relative to key risk metrics.


Additional Key Responsibilities include:

  • Support end-to-end Cat modelling / data capture processes, maintaining up-to-date documentation.
  • Ensure completeness and integrity of exposure data.
  • To make data quality recommendations highlighting areas for improvement.
  • Manage outsourcing partners to operate in line with internal standards.
  • Contribute towards strategic roadmap, ensuring profitable portfolio growth and optimization.
  • Support the modelled rollup – both in-force and proforma as needed
  • Develop & enhance the new or existing tools in increasing performance
  • Support the team with all key deliverables at the required frequency and quality.
  • Produce accurate and timely Pro Forma for Business planning and RI Purchasing.
  • Work closely with underwriting leaders to improve risk selection and portfolio constitution.
  • Support selection and validation of third-party models.

Key Requirements, Skills and Competencies:

  • Minimum 6 year’s catastrophe modelling experience.
  • Must be proficient in Excel and the use of SQL.
  • Experience in major vendor models, RMS or AIR is essential.
  • Proven experience and proficiency in the use of mapping, analytical software, QGIS, Spatial Key is desirable.
  • Additional programming skills with VBA or Python/R, is an advantage
  • Must have a strong mathematical, modelling, technical background.
  • Insurance qualifications are desirable
