About OuterSignal

We are building the customer intelligence and personalization layer for commerce. Businesses know when an order comes in or a user signs up, but they only see 5% of the real story. We show them the other 95%: not just who's transacting, but who that person actually is — the execs, influencers, journalists, retail buyers, investors, and everyday customers who become a brand's best evangelists. Our platform enriches every order in real time with professional and personal signals, builds personas, and powers everything from surprise-and-delight outreach to smarter email flows, analytics, and BD leads. We're a small, high-performing team building the category-defining platform for e-commerce customer intelligence, backed by a world-class investor base.

The Opportunity

Most of our growth so far has come from inbound, referrals, and events. Hundreds of brands found us. Now we're going after the ones that haven't yet.

We're hiring Business Development Representatives to open doors at the brands that should be running on OuterSignal: established Shopify brands doing real volume, with marketing, retention, and partnerships teams that would put customer intelligence to work on day one. Automated outreach handles the long tail. Your job is the accounts worth a human: research them, find the right people, and get them into a meeting with our Account Executives.

This is an outbound seat. You'll work directly with the founders and the sales team, and help shape how OuterSignal prospects as the team grows.

What You’ll Do

  • Build your own target lists. Research and identify high-fit brands, map the decision-makers (heads of growth, retention, eCommerce, and founders), and figure out why OuterSignal matters to each one before you reach out.

  • Run multi-channel outbound. Cold calls, email, LinkedIn, and whatever else gets a reply. You'll run sequences, but the best meetings will come from outreach that could only have been written for that brand.

  • Use the product as a door-opener. Sample enrichment reports, persona snapshots, a look at who's actually buying from them. Our data is the best cold opener we have, and you'll learn to use it.

  • Book meetings that hold up. A qualified meeting means the brand is the right size, a decision-maker is on the call, and the meeting actually happens. Hand every one to an AE with the research already done.

  • Work the whole account. If the first contact goes quiet, find the second and third. Track who's engaged, follow up relentlessly, and know when to come back to an account in a quarter.

  • Keep the CRM honest. Every account, contact, and touch logged, with clean source attribution, so we know what's working.

  • Help build the motion as you run it. Tell us which messages land, which segments respond, and which plays are worth scaling. As the team grows, the playbook you write becomes the one the next BDR runs.

How We'll Measure You

  • Qualified meetings held with right-fit accounts, against a monthly target.

  • Pipeline sourced from your meetings.

Who You Are

  • You have 0–2 years of sales or business development experience, ideally with real outbound reps behind it. SaaS or eCommerce is a plus, but hunger and coachability matter more than years on a resume.

  • You're energized by cold outreach, not intimidated by it. You've made cold calls (or you're ready to start), and you can hear "not interested" twenty times in a day and still bring energy to call twenty-one.

  • You do the homework. You'd rather send ten messages that show you understand the brand than a hundred that don't.

  • You write well. Short, specific, and easy to say yes to.

  • You're curious about how consumer brands grow: Shopify, Klaviyo, Meta ads, creators, and the tools that power modern eCommerce.

  • You're AI-native. You use Claude or ChatGPT every day to research faster and write better, and you're always looking for the next workflow to automate.

  • You manage your own pipeline and activity, and you don't wait to be told what to do.

  • You want to be an AE, and you want to earn it.

What We Offer

  • Impact: Join at the ground floor where your work directly influences company trajectory

  • Growth: A clear path from BDR to AE, with rapid company growth creating exceptional learning and advancement opportunities

  • Flexibility: Remote-first culture with autonomy over your work

  • Team: Work alongside the founding team and learn sales from experienced operators

  • Mission: Revolutionizing the way brands understand and market to their customers

How to Apply

Submit your resume along with responses to the application questions. We review applications on a rolling basis and will reach out to qualified candidates to discuss potential opportunities.

OuterSignal is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
