Your Impact:

As a Business Development Intern, you will identify good Onshape prospects within our user base and prospect into those accounts with a focus on business-to-business sales skills. You will work with an experienced sales network on strategy within your specified territory. The focus of this role will be on growing pipeline and revenue across Onshape’s commercial sales teams.

Your Team: Onshape, a PTC Saas Business, is the newest addition to PTC’s suite of products. The commercial team is ultimately responsible for the full lifecycle sales from prospect to close.

Day-To-Day:

  • Identify and qualify new sales opportunities for Onshape’s product development platform
  • Prospect into whitespace accounts and feel comfortable targeting senior level decision makers positioning the value of cloud-based CAD & PDM.
  • Ability to manage adversity and consult prospects who may not recognize a need or pain yet
  • Investigate and understand the internal business processes of potential clients.
  • Demonstrate the value of Onshape  through your activity (phone calls, email, LinkedIn and other social mediums)
  • Drive the velocity of your opportunities further down the sales cycle and prepare the customer for a meaningful engagement with your dedicated sales rep counterpart and/or broader supporting ecosystem
  • Nurture identified opportunities until they are ready to be passed onto a sales executive
  • Demonstrate operational excellence and provide all-time visibility on your efforts (usage of sales tools such as SalesLoft for calls and activity management, SalesForce.com for updates to stay current on your targets and opportunity follow-ups)
  • Challenge yourself to build upon key competencies in preparation for your future career growth at PTC

Preferred Skills and Knowledge:

  • Basic written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic knowledge of business & business practices

Preferred Experience:

  • Previous sales or telemarketing experience

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
