The Business Development Associate (BDA) is responsible for initial outreach and early-stage engagement with Sponsors and CROs to proactively communicate Profound’s differentiated capabilities, therapeutic strengths, and execution track record. This role focuses on top-of-funnel relationship building, positioning Profound as a preferred partner early in the study planning and feasibility process.

While this role does not directly drive deal closure, it plays a critical role in shaping Sponsor and CRO perception, building awareness, and enabling downstream study opportunities.

What You’ll Do

Sponsor & CRO Outreach

  • Conduct proactive outreach to Sponsors and CROs to introduce Profound and articulate its core capabilities, scale, and therapeutic experience

  • Serve as an early point of contact for new Sponsor and CRO relationships

  • Help position Profound as a trusted, high-performing partner for feasibility, study startup, and trial execution

Capability Messaging & Market Education

  • Communicate Profound’s differentiators, including investigator strength, therapeutic depth, patient access and diversity, startup speed, and operational performance

  • Tailor messaging to different Sponsor and CRO audiences based on portfolio needs and trial phase

Pipeline & Opportunity Development

  • Generate and qualify early-stage opportunities for inclusion in the business development and feasibility pipeline

  • Route qualified leads to Business Development leaders and feasibility teams for follow-up

  • Support early engagement activities that influence study inclusion decisions

Collaboration & Internal Enablement

  • Partner with feasibility, clinical operations, and senior business development leadership to ensure external messaging accurately reflects network capabilities and performance

  • Maintain current understanding of site performance metrics, therapeutic strengths, and success stories across the network

  • Capture and share market feedback from Sponsors and CROs to inform messaging, strategy, and continuous improvement

CRM & Reporting

  • Document outreach activity, conversations, follow-ups, and handoffs in the CRM

  • Track engagement activity, response rates, and pipeline progression

  • Contribute to recurring reporting on outreach effectiveness and pipeline contribution

What You Bring

  • 1-2 years of experience in clinical research, site operations, recruitment operations, or CRO/sponsor-facing roles

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build credibility and relationships quickly

  • Ability to articulate technical and operational concepts in a clear, concise, and confident way

  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and consistent follow-through

  • Comfort working across teams and managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Curiosity, initiative, and a proactive approach to identifying and advancing new opportunities

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
