Position Summary:

The Business Analytics & Insight Associate is responsible for developing and supporting performance analytics in support of key business and operations leaders across divisions at athenahealth. The Associate is tasked with defining, building and delivering reporting on key performance indicators (KPIs) that support a variety of commercial and operational metrics. Additionally, this role offers opportunities to engage in machine learning projects aimed at enhancing predictive analytics and automating insights to drive business outcomes. The Associate enables the business partner relationship by helping to generate impactful insights into performance through the creation of reports and dashboards, and assisting in the development, and maintenance of, core data sources. The Associate reports to the Business Analytics & Insights Manager and is part of the broader Financial Planning and Analysis division.

Team Summary:
The Analytics team at athenahealth is responsible for developing and supporting performance analytics that empower business and operations leaders across multiple divisions. This team leverages data to identify trends, optimize processes, and drive strategic initiatives that enhance healthcare delivery. As part of this team, you will contribute to building scalable analytics solutions and fostering a culture of continuous improvement through data.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Create and optimize KPI definitions and report on trends and performance on an ongoing basis, highlighting key insights to business partners and partner on defining opportunities to improve outcomes

  • Produce standard metric reports and packages for ELT and BoD reviews on a monthly and quarterly basis

  • Collaborate on machine learning initiatives to develop predictive models

  • Assist in the evaluation and deployment of ML models into business processes to enhance decision-making and operational efficiency

  • Deliver on ad hoc projects and analyses aimed at improving commercial or operational performance and key business results.

  • Support governance of metric definitions and associated datasets by owning ongoing documentation and socialization of changes

  • Participate in initiatives to develop and mature the corporate reporting framework (anything from creating new metrics to defining datamart architecture)

Additional Job Responsibilities:

  • Actively participate in athena’s annual planning process.  Develop forecast/budget models for key operational and growth performance measures, participate in goal-setting, identify cross-functional dependencies, etc.

  • Manage ongoing end-user training on business-facing dashboards and own delivery of enhancements/bug fixes

Expected Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent experience in business intelligence will be considered.

  • 0–3 years of experience in business intelligence, data modeling/analysis, management consulting, corporate finance, or other analytical/business-strategy roles.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Office tools (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint) for analysis, reporting, and stakeholder communication.

  • Experience working in or supporting B2B SaaS or other high-tech customer organizations (preferred).

  • Technical coursework or experience with programming languages and query tools (e.g., Python, R, SQL) (plus).

  • Experience with statistical modeling, machine learning techniques, data mining/modeling, and/or financial modeling (preferred/highly desirable).

  • Strong analytical skills and a demonstrated desire to tackle unstructured or distributed data to uncover insights and drive action.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience presenting data to non-analytical audiences.

  • Experience with BI and visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) (plus).


Expected Compensation

$70,000 - $118,000

The base salary range shown reflects the full range for this role from minimum to maximum. At athenahealth, base pay depends on multiple factors, including job-related experience, relevant knowledge and skills, how your qualifications compare to others in similar roles, and geographical market rates.  Base pay is only one part of our competitive Total Rewards package - depending on role eligibility, we offer both short and long-term incentives by way of an annual discretionary bonus plan, variable compensation plan, and equity plans.
