About the Role
We're looking for a backend engineer to help build and scale revenue cycle management (RCM) at Marble. We're on an audacious mission to solve the youth mental health crisis, and that will only be possible if we effectively collect payments from insurance payers for the care we're providing. That's a notoriously difficult challenge, and we need talented engineers to help us tackle it.
You'll be part of a team of engineers & operations building the infrastructure, product, and processes that power RCM. You'll work on a high-leverage surface area that directly impacts our ability to grow, and help build a world-class engineering culture from the ground up.
What You'll Do
Build and maintain Marble's RCM / billing systems
  • Build and maintain the systems that ensure Marble gets paid. This is a huge surface area that includes things like payer contract configuration management, insurance collection, automated eligibility checks, workflows to handle newly ineligible insurance, claim submissions, reimbursement flows, and reporting.

Contribute to core platform infrastructure
  • While RCM will be your primary focus, we're still a small team and you'll have opportunities to contribute to our general core platform infrastructure. You'll contribute to evolving our architecture, and gain exposure to event-driven systems, internal tooling, data pipelines, and DevX / infra improvements.

Write high-quality, maintainable code
  • Build reliable, well-tested features and contribute to our engineering standards. Learn from peers and grow your skills in a supportive, collaborative environment.

Collaborate cross-functionally
  • Work closely with product, operations, and clinical teams to understand requirements and deliver solutions that solve real problems for our users.

Qualifications
Requirements
  • 2+ years of backend engineering experience
  • Strong foundation in building reliable systems and working with business logic
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines & infrastructure as code concepts
  • Prior startup experience, or a really strong desire to work at an early stage company
  • NYC based & able to come into our SOHO office 3 days a week

Bonus
  • Prior experience in the healthtech space
  • Experience with the Node.js ecosystem
  • Experience with AWS or other cloud platforms

Marble Must Have Traits
Relentless Drive
  • You're the hardest worker in the room who takes full responsibility for outcomes and tackles any task, no matter how small.

Introspective Team Player
  • You invest in relationships and team morale while actively seeking feedback and self-evaluating to continuously improve.

Operationally Excellent
  • You communicate clearly, think logically, and execute efficiently & effectively.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
