Job Description Summary

Our Property & Casualty (P&C) Finance organization offers an opportunity to drive strong business results through collaboration and innovation, leverage state of the art tools, and the potential to make an impact on a daily basis. As AVP, Finance and Pricing for our P&C Financial Lines, you’ll oversee financial decision support for our MLS and eRisk product portfolios. In this high-impact role, you will lead a cross-functional team responsible for pricing strategy, actuarial modeling, and financial planning, while serving as a key advisor to senior leadership teams. You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our business by developing and implementing advanced pricing practices, optimizing risk-return strategies, and ensuring financial accuracy across actuals, forecasts, and plans.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Leads and manages financial business decision support across the MLS and eRisk product portfolio. This includes both actuarial pricing and modeling functions along with strategic financial support.

  • Develops and leads implementation of new pricing practices at the account and portfolio level as necessary. Serves on several regional and cross-functional teams and provides pricing related consultation to drive profitability and enable effective segmentation and risk monitoring.

  • Develops strategies designed to balance long-term growth, profitability, competitiveness, and risk management supporting Property & Casualty (P&C) Standard Commercial lines of business.

  • Maintains deep awareness of industry trends and developments, competitor information, and the voice of the customer to develop the risk, return, and product management strategies to achieve strategic profitability goals.

  • Proactively monitors business performance against forecasts and assumptions. Serves as cross-functional subject matter expert to align efforts and resources to highest impact priorities.

  • Develops the operating plan and supporting budgets to design prioritization and funding of strategic and tactical initiatives based on alignment with business plans and strategies.

  • Serve as an active member of MLS and eRisk leadership team(s) and expected to provide financial and business thought leadership and insights into business performance and operational plans in support of short- & long-term business objectives. Actively participate in the development of the tactical and long-term strategic business plans. Create and/or continuously improve financial models/tools.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned. 

Reporting Relationships: Reports to VP, CFO - E&S/Specialty & Commercial Lines. Manages a team of 4-6 Finance and Actuarial professionals. Potential for 10-15 indirect reports.

Typical Skills and Experiences: 

Education: Undergraduate studies in actuarial science, business, finance, mathematics, economics preferred. MBA preferred.

License/Certification/Designation: Industry credential preferred (FCAS, ACAS, CPA, CPCU)

Experience: Typically, ten or more years of finance experience in alternative risk. Typically, three or more years of managing a team.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Proven extensive knowledge of property and casualty business operations, financial systems, insurance accounting, and financial reporting (GAAP and Statutory). Demonstrated strong financial and technical insurance skills, excellent communication abilities, and demonstrated critical and creative thinking. Proven leadership, including the ability to lead with courage and emotional intelligence, is essential. Must be adept at talent development, building business cases, and providing executive-level recommendations.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and HR Business Partner. Depending on level, the approvers may change.

Overtime Eligibility: Not Eligible (Exempt). Some travel may be required.

Working Conditions: Normal office environment.

If a Sales job, Sales Incentives, based on performance goals are possible in addition to this range.

The national salary range for AVP, Finance & Pricing - P&C Financial Lines : $162,000.00-$320,000.00

The expected starting salary range for AVP, Finance & Pricing - P&C Financial Lines : $171,000.00 - $287,000.00
