Hours: 30 hours per week
Compensation: $25 per hour
Reports To: Dean of Academics or Designee
CATS Academy Boston is seeking a highly organized, dependable, and student-centered Attendance Specialist to oversee the school’s daily attendance processes.The Attendance Specialist will ensure that student attendance records are accurate, timely, and complete while serving as a central point of communication among students, families, teachers, advisors, and school leadership. The successful candidate will combine careful attention to detail with a warm but appropriately persistent approach to supporting student accountability. This position plays an important role in helping the school identify attendance concerns early, strengthen communication with families, and ensure that students receive the support needed to remain engaged and successful.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage the daily student attendance process and ensure that records are entered accurately and promptly.
- Review attendance submissions from teachers and follow up on missing or inconsistent information.
- Record and monitor student absences, tardiness, early dismissals, and class cuts.
- Contact students, parents, guardians, and appropriate school personnel regarding unexplained absences or attendance concerns.
- Maintain accurate attendance documentation within PowerSchool and other school systems.
- Produce daily, weekly, and periodic attendance reports for school leadership.
- Identify attendance patterns and promptly elevate concerns involving chronic absenteeism, repeated tardiness, or missed classes.
- Collaborate with academic leaders, advisors, Student Services, Residential Life, and other departments to support student attendance.
- Help students understand attendance expectations and related school procedures.
- Maintain appropriate documentation of family communications and attendance interventions.
- Support attendance-related meetings, reviews, and follow-up plans as needed.
- Protect the confidentiality of student and family information.
- Provide limited administrative support connected to student records and daily school operations.
- Perform other attendance-related duties as assigned.

Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Prior experience in a school, administrative, student-services, or records-management role preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate professionally and respectfully with students, families, and colleagues.
- Comfort managing sensitive conversations and consistently reinforcing school expectations.
- Strong computer and data-entry skills.
- Familiarity with PowerSchool is strongly preferred.
- Ability to analyze attendance information and recognize patterns requiring follow-up.
- Demonstrated reliability, discretion, sound judgment, and commitment to confidentiality.
- Ability to work effectively in a diverse and international school community.
