The Associate Director of Medical Education will be responsible for driving enterprise-wide educational strategy and delivery across Tempus’ medical and commercial teams. This leader will ensure that all field-facing and internal stakeholders — including research and clinical MSLs, scientific liaisons, and commercial partners — are equipped with timely, accurate, and high-impact scientific education. This highly cross-functional role requires close collaboration with Medical Affairs, Research, Clinical Development, Marketing, and Commercial leadership to translate evolving scientific insights into engaging educational content, training initiatives, and resources. The Associate Director will serve as a central connector between functions, ensuring alignment of messaging, scientific accuracy, and strategic priorities.
Key Responsibilities
Cross-Functional Education Leadership
Develop and oversee the medical education strategy that spans research MSLs, clinical MSLs, scientific liaisons, and commercial field teams.
Serve as the primary cross-functional point of contact for educational content requests and needs across Medical Affairs, Marketing, and Commercial teams.
Ensure consistent, accurate, and compliant messaging across all education channels.
Training & Program Development
Design, implement, and manage onboarding and ongoing education programs for field teams (MSLs, liaisons, commercial).
Lead journal clubs, webinars, and workshops to keep field teams up to date with emerging data, industry trends, and Tempus’ scientific platforms.
Partner with Learning & Development to deliver innovative training methods and maintain a robust library of educational assets.
Scientific Content & Communication
Collaborate with Medical and Commercial leadership to develop high-quality scientific engagement materials.
Partner with Marketing to align educational initiatives with broader communication strategies.
Manage scientific accuracy and compliance review processes in partnership with Regulatory/MLR teams.
Collaboration & Impact
Partner with Commercial and Marketing teams to support customer-facing education and ensure alignment of medical and market strategies.
Collaborate with Clinical Development and Research teams to translate study results, new discoveries, and platform updates into practical educational content.
Act as a key liaison to ensure seamless integration of educational efforts across internal functions and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
Advanced degree (PhD, PharmD, MD, DO, or DNP) in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., oncology, molecular biology, genetics).
5+ years experience in Medical Affairs, Medical Education, or Scientific Communications within life sciences or diagnostics.
Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives spanning Medical, Commercial, and Marketing functions.
Strong knowledge of oncology, genetics, genomics, and the healthcare landscape.
Excellent communication, presentation, and project management skills.
Proven ability to translate complex science into clear, engaging education.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience building medical education programs in precision medicine or diagnostics.
Familiarity with commercial field team engagement and needs in a biotech or diagnostics environment.
Knowledge of regulatory/compliance frameworks for scientific exchange and promotional activities.
Experience leveraging digital platforms, data analytics, or AI in education and training.

$180,000 - $220,000
The expected salary range above is applicable if the role is performed from Illinois and may vary for other locations (California, Colorado, New York). Actual salary may vary based on qualifications and experience. Tempus offers a full range of benefits, which may include incentive compensation, restricted stock units, medical and other benefits depending on the position.
