About the Opportunity

The Professional Master of Science (PSM) in Biotechnology Program invites applications from qualified candidates for a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position with the title of Assistant Teaching Professor. This position is located at the Northeastern University Boston Campus. The Professional Master of Science (PSM) in Biotechnology Program is designed to allow students to pursue advanced training and excel in bioscience while simultaneously developing highly valued business skills. The successful applicant will have the knowledge to develop and teach Biotechnology courses at the Master’s level. This position works closely with the Director of the Biotechnology Programs and reports to the Chair of Chemistry and Chemical Biology.

Responsibilities:

The instructor will be responsible for teaching core biotechnology courses including laboratories, such as Biotechnology Applications Laboratory, Scientific Communication and Problem Solving in Biotechnology, Molecular Approaches in Biotechnology and Experimental Design and Biostatistics. Teaching responsibilities are subject to modification based on program needs and the time commitment of the service requirement and are at the discretion of the Director of the Biotechnology Program.

Teaching Responsibilities include the following: review and learning of key teaching points within existing instructor guides, and a willingness to support high-quality teaching and standards through: preparation of lectures based on course materials provided; effective facilitation of rich, respectful debates and discussions in an in-person or online class; timely review and grading of assignments with appropriate coaching and feedback to the students; consistent connection with students and their performance; adherence to Northeastern’s policies.

In addition to core teaching responsibilities, this individual will be responsible for a service component within their role, which will include acting as a liaison between the biotechnology program and Massachusetts-based partner organizations, the creation of new graduate work or customized courses, maintaining updates to the existing curriculum, and program administration. This unique position seeks to integrate professional practice into the classroom, specifically with respect to the Massachusetts bioscience ecosystem.

Qualifications:

Candidate must have a Ph.D. in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Cellular Biology or related field by the appointment start date, and a commitment to teaching excellence at the university level. Qualified candidates should be committed to fostering diverse and inclusive environments as well as to promoting experiential learning, which are central to a Northeastern University education.

Position requires excellent communication skills and the ability to work productively and successfully and interact with students, faculty, staff and industry partners. Demonstrated experience in the biotechnology industry desirable, but not required.

Pay Range:

Assistant Teaching Professor: $82,000.00 - $92,000.00

With the pay range(s) shown above, the starting salary will depend on several factors, which may include your education, experience, location, knowledge and expertise, and skills as well as a pay comparison to similarly-situated employees already in the role. Salary ranges are reviewed regularly and are subject to change.
