The Department of History in the College of Social Sciences and Humanities at Northeastern University seek to fill a non-tenure-track job opening for an Assistant Teaching Professor, Associate Teaching Professor, or Full Teaching Professor in the area of Modern Europe.
This is an academic year teaching faculty position with opportunities for promotion through an established track from Assistant Teaching Professor to Associate Teaching Professor to Full Teaching Professor. Reappointment letters are issued prior to July 1 of the applicable year.
This is a full time, benefits-eligible position with an expected start date of August 17, 2026. The position will be on Northeastern’s Boston campus.
Responsibilities:
Duties include a teaching load of six courses for the academic year (three courses in each semester), including Modern Europe, History of the Soviet Union, History of Espionage, and courses in their specialty.
Student advising, professional development and service are also expected.
Qualifications:
Ph.D. in European History or a related field in hand by the employment start date is required.
Candidates seeking appointment at the Associate Teaching Professor level should already hold a position at the rank of Associate Teaching Professor or have a comparable level of experience. Candidates seeking appointment at the Full Teaching Professor level should already hold a position at the rank of Full Teaching Professor or have a comparable level of experience.

Please highlight any pedagogical innovations, experiential learning activities, or strategies for teaching a global student population.

Pay Range:
Assistant Teaching Professor: $68,000.00 - $80,000.00 | Associate Teaching Professor: $81,000.00 - $91,000.00 | Teaching Professor: $89,000.00 - $100,000.00With the pay range(s) shown above, the starting salary will depend on several factors, which may include your education, experience, location, knowledge and expertise, and skills as well as a pay comparison to similarly-situated employees already in the role.
