About the Opportunity

The College of Social Sciences and Humanities and its ten tenure units are the home of the Experiential Liberal Arts. Through its research, teaching, and engagement missions, the college collaborates across the university, the Northeastern network, and partners around the globe. Successful faculty in the College of Social Sciences and Humanities will be dynamic and innovative scholars with a record of research and teaching excellence. Strong candidates for this position will have the expertise, knowledge, and skills to build their research, pedagogy, and curriculum in ways that reflect and enhance this commitment.

The Department of Economics in the College of Social Sciences and Humanities seeks to fill two (2) full-time non-tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor, Associate Teaching Professor, or Full Teaching Professor.

The primary teaching responsibility for these positions will be macroeconomics, with a particular emphasis on large sections of Principles of Macroeconomics, a course that plays a central role in the undergraduate curriculum and supports cross-college teaching partnerships. In addition to undergraduate instruction, the department seeks candidates who can also contribute to graduate-level macroeconomics courses, including MS-level macroeconomic theory and, depending on qualifications, PhD-level macroeconomics.

Secondary teaching interests that would further strengthen an application include machine learning, computational economics, or data-intensive methods, particularly where these areas complement macroeconomic analysis or modern quantitative approaches.

Successful candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence, the ability to manage large-enrollment courses effectively, and a willingness to contribute meaningfully to both the undergraduate and graduate teaching missions of the department.

This is a full time, benefits-eligible position with an expected start date of August 17, 2026.

Responsibilities:

Duties include a teaching load of six courses for the academic year (three courses in each semester). Student advising, professional development, and service activities are also expected.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Economics or a related field in hand by the employment start date is required.

  • The successful candidate should have a strong record of exemplary teaching and/or demonstrate sufficient promise.

  • Candidates seeking appointment at the Associate Teaching Professor level should already hold a position at the rank of Associate Teaching Professor or have a comparable level of experience. Candidates seeking appointment at the Full Teaching Professor level should already hold a position at the rank of Full Teaching Professor or have a comparable level of experience.

Documents to Submit:

Applicants should submit a cover letter that addresses their interest in and qualifications for the position, a curriculum vitae, a teaching statement, sample syllabi, teaching evaluations, and names and contact information for at least three professional references from whom letters of reference can be solicited as needed.

The teaching statement should summarize your past instructional and mentorship experiences, your pedagogical philosophy, and what you would like to teach at Northeastern. Please highlight any pedagogical innovations, experiential learning activities, or strategies for teaching a global student population.
