Job Summary:
At Caterpillar, we build what matters-and that includes the networks that power our global operations. We are seeking a skilled and motivated Wireless Design professional to join our IT team, where innovation meets infrastructure. This role is critical to designing, optimizing, and supporting wireless solutions that enable seamless connectivity across our enterprise environments.
As part of the LAN/WLAN team, you'll collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to deliver secure, high-performance wireless networks that support office, manufacturing, and employees/customers in the field. Responsibilities include WLAN design, implementation, troubleshooting, and support for the Americas region. Your work will directly impact Caterpillar's ability to operate efficiently and securely around the world.

What You Will Do:
  • Administer and manage Caterpillar's WLAN infrastructure. Includes hardware, software, and configuration of WLAN Cisco devices.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve issues related to WLAN hardware, software, and network systems.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule with other team members to ensure continuous WLAN support.
  • Collaborate with business partners and vendors to design WLAN solutions that align with business requirements.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of WLAN processes in coordination with the broader WLAN team.

What You Have:
  • Computer-related or engineering-related four-year college or university degree
  • Six plus years of progressively responsible IT job-related experiences
  • WLAN design and implementation experience with small to large size areas, both indoors and outdoors
  • Experience with Ekahau tool for wireless designs
  • Strong knowledge of WLAN and related technologies - risk domains, tiered domains, TCP/IP fundamentals, ethernet, QoS, IP subnetting, cabling (copper & fiber), OSPF, VLAN Trunking, VLANs, and switching configuration.
  • Knowledge of configuration commands, software, and hardware components related to WLAN
  • Knowledge and familiarity with Cisco WLAN devices/products (i.e., AireOS, 9800's, etc.)
  • Ability to work withing a team in a collaborative environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders

Top Candidates Will Also Have:
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or additional certifications
  • Experience with automation technologies and scripting
  • Knowledge of Cisco Catalyst Center, ServiceNow, and ITSM processes
  • Background knowledge with ISE, LAN, and other relevant technologies that interact with WLAN
  • Functional experience with LAN operations and implementation utilizing Cisco switches

Additional Info:
  • The ideal location for this role is East Peoria-IL.
  • This position requires the candidate to work a 5-day-a-week schedule in the office.
  • This position may require 10% travel.

Summary Pay Range:
$95,640.00 - $155,400.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
