We are seeking a talented individual to join the CIO team at Mercer. This role will be based in NYC, Boston, Chicago, Minneapolis or St. Louis. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.

In this position you will have the opportunity to work as part of our Alternatives team within the Office of the CIO, serving Mercer’s large discretionary and advisory institutional client base. The senior investment professional will bring best in class Alternatives services to clients across the private credit landscape.  Covering client strategy, asset allocation, advisory or outsourced fiduciary implementation requirements across private credit.

The role will involve working with clients (in conjunction with the private credit asset class specialist team) on mandate design, manager selection and portfolio construction within Mercer’s investment governance framework.

We will count on you to:

  • Construct private credit portfolios across key client segments, including insurance, healthcare, endowments, foundations, and defined benefit.

  • Be pivotal to updating clients on market trends/best ideas and any developments within the private credit space

  • Be a though leader withing private credit and a dependable resource to educate key internal and external stakeholders through both written papers and in-person presentations

  • Help identify growth opportunities within the private credit industry and work with the broader business to explore and potentially implement these opportunities

  • Collaborate with leaders across various segments (insurance, healthcare, endowment and foundations, defined benefit, etc.) to provide latest market developments/services to clients across the private credit continuum; in regards to providing advice, research, tools (inclusive of forward calendars & pipeline) and delegated solutions inclusive of bespoke client solutions

  • Help create and drive private credit thought leadership via Strategic Research Teams

  • Participate in all alternatives team meetings, group projects, town halls and team activities

  • Actively engage in internal committees, work streams, talent development

  • Become a Brand ambassador - increase Mercer’s visibility externally through thought leadership, conference presentations, new business pursuits

  • Be viewed as a trusted resource across broader platform with ability to handle and run client meetings and manage a team without assistance

What you need to have:

  • BA/BS degree in finance, economics, or other business-related areas

  • 7+ years  of experience within Alternative Investments

  • Possess strong, foundational knowledge of Private Credit asset class and can speak to private credit capabilities across the continuum (research, advice and solutions) to existing clients and prospects, articulating portfolio construction framework, different private credit sub-strategies and implementation capabilities. Investment background and highly numerate with an analytical mind-set

  • Adaptable self-starter that can independently work with sophisticated clients who require bespoke portfolio implementation and advice in private credit

  • Fluency in the four sub-strategies of private debt and where they sit on the risk/return spectrum

  • Possess knowledge of fund structures and terms across private credit landscape

  • Able to support and advise client-facing consulting colleagues on alternatives topics, support the development of intellectual capital to promote awareness internally and externally promoting the firm's capabilities in Private Credit

  • Ability to work with a range of institutional client types (e.g. insurance companies, endowments and foundations, healthcare institutions, public and corporate pensions, insurance companies, wealth management, etc.)

Marsh McLennan is committed to hybrid work, which includes the flexibility of working remotely and the collaboration, connections and professional development benefits of working together in the office. All Marsh McLennan colleagues are expected to be in their local office or working onsite with clients at least three days per week. Office-based teams will identify at least one “anchor day” per week on which their full team will be together in person.

The applicable base salary range for this role is $140,500 to $281,000.

The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
