Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location.  The anticipated wage for this position is

$156,750 - $250,800

The Next Generation Therapeutics (NGTx) team at Lilly Seaport Innovation Center is focused on using novel modalities to deliver medicines for chronic pain and neurodegenerative disorders at speed. At the newly established Lilly Institute of Genetic Medicines in Boston, MA, dedicated teams are focused on developing breakthrough medicines utilizing novel RNA, oligonucleotide, and gene therapy approaches.

We are looking for a highly motivated data scientist to join NGTx team. You will play a key role in leveraging large-scale data analysis and AI/ML techniques to advance therapeutic targets and support therapeutic program decisions. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver the extraordinary promise of RNAi therapeutics in neurological disorders.

Role responsibilities:

  • Data analysis pipeline and methodology development

    • Develop and optimize NGS data workflows with a focus on high quality data delivery and scientific interpretation, such as RNAseq, spatial transcriptomics and proteomics.

    • Champion the integration of multi-modal data (spatial -omics, imaging data, etc) to deepen scientific understanding of targets and molecules to support platform and program advancement.

    • Stay up to date on the application AI/ML algorithms in RNA therapeutics, develop and implement fit-for-purpose AI/ML algorithms to predict RNAi efficacy and safety risks.

    • Work with data engineers to develop the omics data ETL processes and visualization solutions to enhance the utility of omics datasets for scientific purposes.

    • Properly document code, workflows and analysis results for preclinical studies and regulatory filings.

  • Act as a data science lead in NGTx RNAi discovery programs and platforms

    • Run NGS data analysis and in-silico prediction to deliver high-quality molecule off-target assessments.

    • Work with the platform team to evaluate and identify novel technology platforms to enhance the team's ability in molecule off-target assessments.

  • Scientific leadership and project management

    • Take ownership to identify scientific needs and devise data science solutions to support platform innovation and therapeutic programs.

    • Tackle complex projects and overcome challenges, and communicate timelines for deliverables to support projects

    • Proactively communicate project activities and progress with key stakeholders and supervisors.

Basic Qualifications:

  • PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Data Science, or a related scientific field.

Additional Skills/Preferences:

  • 3+ years post-graduate industrial experience in CNS drug discovery and translational research is strongly preferred.

  • Extensive experience in analyzing NGS data in therapeutic development settings, such as RNAseq, spatial transcriptomics, and proteomics.

  • Expert user of at least one common scripting language (Python, R, or equivalent) and SQL databases.

  • Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and databases, including building bioinformatics data analysis pipelines.

  • Experience working with Cloud (AWS) and HPC environments.

  • Experience in developing and implementing machine learning algorithms to address biological problems is preferred.
