The Lynn advanced programs (AP) section is a brand-new organization with the mission of inventing the future of flight and advancing propulsion capability for the next generation of military applications. Lynn AP supports a wide range of engineering activity including design, analysis, and testing across new, derivative, and existing engines.
The staff engineer will lead mechanical design and development of all fan stator airfoils as part of the fan module team. In this role, the staff engineer will utilize engineering experience to solve problems and recommend technical solutions partnering with teammates and technical experts. This role is best suited for someone with a passion for engineering and a strong desire to solve new and challenging technical problems all while balancing project requirements. Collaboration with teammates and peers in adjacent organizations will be necessary to achieve project outcomes. The staff engineer will also provide guidance and mentoring to less experienced engineers on the team.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Execute with limited guidance the design and analysis of all fan stator airfoils, adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements Properly document technical data generated.
  • Develop specialized knowledge in fan stator airfoil mechanical design through creation and analysis of physics-based static and dynamic finite element models used to optimize the performance, reliability, and durability of compressor stator airfoils.
  • Lead collaboration of a cross-functional design team to balance durability with aerodynamics, aeromechanics, producibility, and hardware delivery
  • Partner with internal teams and external vendors to facilitate hardware manufacture and procurement
  • Provide technical guidance that influences outcomes in the design process leveraging experience, technical expertise, and data to support recommendations. Mentor others in the organization
  • Maintain knowledge of competition and the factors that differentiate designs or products
  • Develop action plans, with guidance, to respond to issues/problems
  • Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews with internal and external customers
  • Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience. May lead small to medium scope projects with moderate risks and resource requirements. Generate project plans to manage design execution.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of science in Engineering from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 4 years of engineering experience in relevant mechanical design engineering position
  • Due to the nature of the duties of this position, this role requires the individual to obtain and maintain US Government Security Clearance; prerequisite for a security clearance is U.S. citizenship

Desired Characteristics:

  • Bachelor of science in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering
  • Active US government security clearance at the Secret level
  • Minimum of 6 years experience in relevant mechanical design engineering roles
  • Experience in design, analysis, and manufacturing of high-precision or turbomachinery components, especially airfoils
  • Proficiency with finite element analysis software such as ANSYS
  • Extensive experience with 3D Modeling software, preferably Unigraphics/NX
  • Proficient with GD&T principles and reading or creating drawings
  • Passion for the aviation industry and advancing the state-of-the-art
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills in-person and across geographic sites
  • Ability to influence others and lead small teams
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, analyze, and resolve problems
  • Strong project management skills with ability to independently organize and prioritize effort
