This role offers the chance to build scalable processes, implement automation, and make a measurable impact at our fast-growing organization.

  • Manage AR: generate and send customer invoices, post cash receipts, and resolve billing issues
  • Post payroll journal entries, reconcile benefits and withholdings, and support payroll administrative tasks
  • Maintain vendor and customer relationships; onboard new accounts, collect W-9s, and resolve inquiries
  • Support month-end close activities: prepare journal entries, perform account reconciliations, and update close workpapers
  • Coordinate compliance tasks: prepare and file 1099s, assist with sales/use tax filings, and support external audits
  • Identify and implement process improvements, document SOPs
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external auditors to resolve issues

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred
  • 2-5 years of hands-on experience in AP, AR, payroll posting, and vendor/customer management
  • Proficiency with Quickbooks Online (or related ERP) and payment management platforms such as Bill.com, Stripe, Shopify
  • Strong Excel skills (VLOOKUP, pivot tables, data analysis)
  • Solid understanding of US GAAP, ASC 606 revenue recognition basics, and internal controls
  • Excellent communication and problem solving skills
  • Ability to adapt to fast pace startup environment

To be considered for this Accounting Operations Specialist, please provide thoughtful responses to the questions below. Incomplete responses may delay or disqualify your application.

  1. Describe a time you identified and implemented an improvement in an AP or AR process. What prompted you to act, what steps did you take, and what was the measurable impact?
  2. Share an example of when you managed multiple project priorities under a tight deadline.

  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
