Reports to SVP, Group Account Director 

Job Summary

The Account Director is responsible for managing key client relationships and overseeing the development and execution of medical communication strategies. This role involves providing strategic guidance to pharmaceutical, biotech, and healthcare clients, ensuring that medical education programs, scientific publications, and promotional content meet client objectives and regulatory standards. The Account Director will lead cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, timely projects while driving client satisfaction, account growth, and profitability. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in medical communications, client management, and team leadership, focusing on delivering scientifically accurate and impactful communications across various channels.
 
Key Job Responsibilities (Duties may include, but are not limited to all or some of the following)
 
  • Demonstrates commercial business development acumen, bringing a level of industry and therapeutic area knowledge unequaled inside or outside the client’s organization
  • Able to discuss, recommend, and provide direction on issues ranging from strategy to competitive market events in medical education
  • Owns the application of brand strategy into the master tactical plan development and tactical execution for their brand
  • Discusses, recommends, and provides direction on issues ranging from strategy to medical education tactics
  • Takes a lead role in fostering a partnership between planning and creative teams, resulting in strategic insight and vision that achieves client goals
  • Leads the team in a manner that encourages, executes on, and supports company ideals
  • Addresses conflict and celebrates successes, sets clear team priorities, explains brands’ objectives and strategies, monitors progress and measurable outcomes
  • Handles financial reporting, including month-over-month forecasting and accountability, maximizing profitability for his or her book of business, managing staff utilization and ensuring organic growth
  • Enables and promotes confidence in junior colleagues, peers, and cross-discipline client teams
  • Manages, mentors, and develops team members
  • Willing to travel including weekends

Job Qualifications (Skills/Requirements)
 
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 5-8 years of pharmaceutical marketing or account management experience in medical education, with at least 2-4 years of Account experience in an agency setting, is required
  • Possesses a level of business acumen and maturity necessary to lead a team
  • Ability to think "bigger picture" on the brand and for the agency in a strategic way that has a measurable impact on business results beyond tactical execution
  • Professional presence—possesses positive, inspirational qualities that motivate the internal team and evoke ease and confidence in clients
  • Possesses superior verbal and written communication skills, both with clients and internal brand teams, including presentation skills
  • Can mindfully manage deadlines, multiple tasks, and challenges
  • Strong understanding of medical communications, including scientific publications, medical education, digital communication, and promotional content.
  • Proven Experience in managing client relationships and leading the execution of complex projects across multiple channels.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex scientific information to clients and internal teams.
  • Experience in financial management, including budgeting and forecasting, focusing on achieving account profitability.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to mentor and guide cross-functional teams to success.
  • Ability to travel (locally and nationally) up to 25% of the time
  • Willingness to go beyond what is described in the job description and be flexible for the team and, ultimately, the work
