Job Description:

Berklee empowers artists to create, grow, and shape the future of music and the performing arts. The Access Advisor plays a critical role in making that future accessible—ensuring that all Berklee students, regardless of disability, can fully participate and thrive in their education.

As part of the Accessibility Resources for Students (ARS) team, the Access Advisor works directly with a diverse, global student population to coordinate accommodations and remove barriers in academic, residential, and co-curricular spaces. This highly student-centered role is grounded in equity, inclusion, and partnership.

The ARS team leads with the belief that all students can learn and achieve at a high level—and that disability is a valued aspect of diversity. Through collaboration, creative problem-solving, and advocacy, the Access Advisor helps shape a campus where inclusion is not just a value but a daily practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the accommodation process through individualized meetings with students and review of supporting documentation
  • Advise students, faculty, and staff on access, accommodations, and inclusive practices
  • Coordinate support services such as alternative formats, assistive technology, testing accommodations, housing, and dietary needs
  • Collaborate with Student Success Advisors and departments across Berklee’s campuses (Boston, NYC, Valencia)
  • Maintain accurate, confidential records in the Accessibility Information Management (AIM) system
  • Support training, outreach, and educational programming to promote accessibility
  • Participate in institutional committees and assist with ARS marketing and communications

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 1–2 years of professional experience supporting individuals with disabilities
  • Understanding of disability as a dimension of diversity
  • Knowledge of accommodations and inclusive design in higher education
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality
  • Some nights, weekends, and holidays required.  Occasional business travel.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in a related field
  • Experience in arts or creative education environments
  • Familiarity with Section 504, ADA (as amended), and Fair Housing Act
  • Experience supporting students with visual impairments and/or on the autism spectrum

This position is part of a career ladder that recognizes growing expertise and student-centered excellence. Based on experience, candidates may be hired as an Advisor, Senior Advisor, or Assistant Director.

  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)

  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
