Startup Institute names new CEO

The Startup Institute, a Boston-based training program for innovators, announced this week that Rich DiTieri will be the organization’s new CEO. Startup Institute was formerly led by Diane Hessan. DiTieri first joined Startup Institute in 2014 and most recently served as director of the Boston program. Prior to that, he co-founded The Pintley Company, a startup that created a beer recommendation app. [Boston Business Journal]

MassChallenge Boston announces class of 2017

MassChallenge, dubbed “the most startup-friendly accelerator on the planet” announced the 128 early-stage startups that have been accepted into the 2017 MassChallenge Boston accelerator program this week. Selected by more than 850 expert judges, this year’s cohort represents the top 8 percent of applications from around the world, including 12 countries and 16 states. Of the 128 startups selected, 30 percent are in healthcare and life sciences, 29 percent are high tech and 16 percent are social impact. [Press release]

Shoes.com announces plans to double HQ size

Shoes.com, formerly known as ShoeBuy.com, announced this week that it plans to double its new Charlestown headquarters, hiring an additional 90 employees. Boston tech startups win big at the NEVYs

More than 1,000 of the region’s top innovators, investors and companies got together to celebrate the NEVYs, an annual awards ceremony recognizing some of tech’s most promising ventures last week. NEVY nominees and winners were selected by the New England Venture Capital Association’s Technology Academy and its Healthcare and Life Sciences Academy — made up of past winners, investors and industry leaders like Corey Thomas of Rapid7 and Ellen Rubin of ClearSky Data. DigitalOcean moves into new Central Square office

DigitalOcean, a New York-based cloud computing company, moved into a swanky new office space in Central Square, Cambridge last week. A kickoff party took place at the 5th floor, 7,100-square-foot office located at 485 Massachusetts Avenue and featured drinks, music, food and a photobooth. About 60 employees in engineering, product, sales and marketing will eventually work in the office. [Press release]
