HackerNest Boston October Tech Social, October 4 at 6 p.m.
HackerNest Tech Socials are a fun, relaxed way to connect with Boston’s tech community. The event is sponsored by HackerNest, an international nonprofit that unites local tech communities through unpretentious Tech Socials and hackathons. The atmosphere is relaxed and alcohol will be served. HackerNest Tech Socials are entry by donation — any amount appreciated, but $10 is suggested. If you’re broke, come anyway, but please let the welcome desk know.
Boston Python October Project Night, October 4 at 6:30 p.m.
Sponsored by Akamai, The Boston Python Project Night is a time to find others with compatible interests and work the evening away. At this event, you’ll find time to code, hack, teach, learn and meet some pretty cool people. All skill levels are welcome and there will be at least two tables of beginning learners with helpers for them. The event will be held at Akamai, at 8 Cambridge Center in Cambridge. There will be pizza!
The Government as a Customer, October 4 at 6:30 p.m.
If you are seeking to develop or increase your company’s revenue through government business, The Boston Entrepreneur’s Network is hosting an event for you. Held at Constant Contact, Inc. in Waltham, this event will feature panelists including successful founders and early stage company investors. Kent Plunkett, the CEO and founder of Salary.com, and Gerry Wilson, the CEO and Founder of Yoonew are two of the panelists who will talk about overcoming barriers to working with U.S. federal, state, and municipal government organizations.
Tech Book Club Meeting #2: 'Normalization of Deviance in Software', October 4 at 6:30 p.m.
Join Women Who Code Boston for the second meeting of their Tech Book Club. They’ll be meeting at Wistia in Central Square, Cambridge to discuss Dan Luu's article, the “Normalization of deviance in software: how broken practices become standard.” Attendees will be split into moderated groups to discuss the article. To include your questions or opinions as you read the article, tweet at @wwcboston. Food and drink will be provided.
Reality, Virtually VR/AR Hackathon, October 7-10 at 9:30 p.m.
Sponsored by the MIT Media Lab, the Boston VR and the Boston Unity Group will be running a 4-day hackathon event. AT&T is sponsoring a $5,000 prize and are expected to announce more cash prizes before the hackathon. Friday will be filled with workshops to prepare devs and designers new to VR and AR to participate and for the AR/VR experienced folks to delve into new platforms, methods and platforms. Mentors experienced with development, design, platforms and industry apps will join to help teams scope and build apps. Winners will be announced Monday.
