As we ease into another new year and continue adapting to a new normal, the influx of day-to-day personal decisions can feel overwhelming: Do I feel ready to go back into the office? Can I afford to take so much PTO for a family vacation? Does my current job still align with my values?

We, like the world, are continuously changing. And in order to keep up with that change, tech leadership teams are striving to reflect the most accurate state of their people’s needs through updated company cultures and benefits. For some employees, that’s placing more importance on irreplaceable family moments — pets included — and eliminating a lengthy commute by working from home full time. For others, it’s elevating current skill sets through company-sponsored learning opportunities.

Individuals looking to start fresh at a company that lines up more closely with their internal passions are in luck. To give a helpful head start, Built In Boston rounded up three local companies that are placing a deeper focus on the wellness, skill sets and future of their employees.

What they do: Chewy is an e-commerce company that offers pet owners supplies of all kinds for a variety of animals. Pet owners have access to food, toys, health products and more through Chewy’s website and mobile platform.

Elevated employee experiences: “One of the biggest reasons I joined Chewy and my favorite part of my job is being able to build solutions and tools — and then instantly see the impact,” Senior Product Manager Brooks Albrecht previously told Built In. “I’m able to create next-level, differentiated customer experiences for our customers, team members and partners.”

Pet owner perks: Beyond more traditional company benefits like an unlimited vacation policy and performance bonuses for a job well done, Chewy also offers employees a variety of pet-centric perks. New puppy parents are entitled to “Paw-ternity leave” and all team members are granted access to employee discounts on products, as well as bonding in a pet-friendly workplace.

What they do: Audible is a digital destination for spoken-word entertainment like audiobooks and original podcasts. A subsidiary of Amazon, the company boasts thousands of listening options and multiple ways to access material.

Ear-catching benefits: Looking for a career where you can plan for the future? Audible probably has a company benefit for that. With 401(k) matching, continuing education stipends, promoting from within, and parental perks like child care benefits or adoption assistance, employees can plan out their life goals accordingly.

Calling all audiophiles: Audible is looking for candidates to fill a variety of open roles in the Boston area, including senior software mobile iOS engineer, senior director of business planning and operations, full stack iOS developer and software development engineer. Looking to go fully remote? There’s a senior software development engineer position for that too.

CAMBRIDGE SEMANTICS

What they do: Cambridge Semantics is a big data management and exploratory analytics software company that allows their customers to connect complex data from across their business to gain insights.

Noteworthy tech stack: At Cambridge Semantics, they use Hadoop for frameworks, React for libraries, and C++, Java, JavaScript and Python for languages.

A remote future: Currently, Cambridge operates as a fully remote company. Office space options could return in the future, but remote work options are in place to stay moving forward. Looking to lend your talents to their mission as you work from home? Teams are currently looking to hire a field architect and a field engineer — no commute required.
