The Sustainability Program Lead (SPL) plays an important role in RESG's Office of Sustainability, under the leadership of the Director of Building Operations, providing support and direction to continue our integrated, strategic, and deliberate focus on building-wide sustainability. The SPL is responsible for developing and maintaining programs and reporting specific to the areas of sustainability, green building operations, environmental policy, and sustainable design. The person in this position collaborates with the key internal and external stakeholders to achieve District sustainability program and operational objectives related to energy reductions. The SPL supports the development, implementation, and maintenance of environmental sustainability activities and is informed of changes in the industry, modifying the program elements to reflect the latest best practices and regulatory mandates.
SUSTAINABILITY PROGRAM LEAD

Job Summary
The Sustainability Program Lead (SPL) plays an important role in RESG's Office of Sustainability, under the leadership of the Director of Building Operations, providing support and direction to continue our integrated, strategic, and deliberate focus on building-wide sustainability. The SPL is responsible for developing and maintaining programs and reporting specific to the areas of sustainability, green building operations, environmental policy, and sustainable design. The person in this position collaborates with the key internal and external stakeholders to achieve District sustainability program and operational objectives related to energy reductions. The SPL supports the development, implementation, and maintenance of environmental sustainability activities and is informed of changes in the industry, modifying the program elements to reflect the latest best practices and regulatory mandates.
Principal Accountabilities
Participate with key department personnel in ensuring the alignment of RESG projects and efforts with sustainability goals. Assist in developing key-topic roadmaps for sustainability goals, including initiatives and best practices related to carbon neutrality, energy and waste consumption reductions, renewable energy, and zero waste strategies. Assist in creating a comprehensive and integrated framework and supporting business processes for capturing, measuring, and reporting on the impact of our districtwide sustainability efforts to key internal and external stakeholders. Create, maintain, and monitor qualitative and quantitative metrics to help gauge the effectiveness of building operations efforts related to sustainability. Create transparent and compelling reporting on environmental commitments and performance. Conduct ongoing research on best practices in sustainability program management and building operations management to achieve targets related to sustainability goals; make recommendations with supporting sustainability metric and financial analysis; identify benefits as well as challenges and barriers to implementation. Provide deep support to the Bank's employee sustainability affinity group, including events and programming, communication and outreach, and taskforce committees on key initiatives. Facilitate collaboration on sustainability issues and opportunities between RESG and other Bank departments, as well as with Federal Reserve Plaza tenants; provide vision and support for development of sustainability programs managed by other departments such as green purchasing, sustainable dining practices, etc. Assist in setting targets and monitoring progress. Monitor and ensure alignment with City and State energy mandates. Serve as the First District representative in the Sustainable Real Estate Workgroup, which reports to the System-wide Corporate Real Estate Workgroup, to advance the Boston Fed's participation in sustainability efforts across the Federal Reserve System; also represent the Bank in the local community and more broadly in the sustainability industry by cultivating relationships with key professionals and organizations, such as BOMA Boston. Perform other duties to support the various analytical and administrative needs related to building operations.
This position is required to be primarily onsite, with some flexibility.
Supervision
This position is not required to directly supervise others.
Knowledge and Experience
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Sustainability, or in Business Management or a related field with sustainability/environmental coursework, and 3-5 years' applicable experience. An advanced degree in the sustainability arena is preferred.
The successful candidate possesses a unique mix of analytic, organizational, communication, and relationship management skills.

  • Must possess demonstrable planning, time management and project management skills; the ability to effectively identify, analyze, prioritize, develop, and implement multiple initiatives simultaneously, adapt to changing circumstances, shift priorities on short notice and deliver superior results on time and with minimal supervision.
  • Must have well developed verbal and written communications skills, including public speaking and formal presentations.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills, be able to work with people at all levels of the organization, often leading from below.
  • Must have a successful track record of working both independently and collaboratively within and across departments, and demonstrate the ability to lead project and interest groups.
  • Must have expert proficiency in MS Office and SharePoint, and a strong a working knowledge of data reporting systems.
  • Must be adept at understanding and communicating sustainability principles to others and ability to integrate those principles into building operations.
  • Must have the capability to diplomatically bridge the gap between sustainability idealists and pragmatists to motivate and align diverse interests to advance sustainability across the organization; ability to build consensus among diverse interest groups.
