Senior Manager, Employee Communications

The Senior Manager of Employee Communications will lead all internal communications efforts at DraftKings. This is a new position at the company and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to create the function from the ground up.
He / she will build and bring to life an internal communications program that provides employees with clear, authentic guidance from senior leadership on the company’s goals and priorities, while maintaining the intimate and entrepreneurial spirit that built DraftKings.
The person in this role will partner in the integration of communication strategies across the company to educate, motivate and inspire employees to deliver on critical initiatives. She / he will work extremely closely with DK’s Human Resources Department to not only help them deliver their messages internally, but also to utilize their unique insights into employee and company needs.
The successful candidate will also have comfort in working directly with senior executives. In addition, he / she will create mechanisms to allow for two-way communication to deliver employee thoughts, ideas and concerns to management.
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who thinks strategically and creatively, with the ability to develop and execute tactics across all mediums. She / he must be an energetic, effective project manager with the ability to manage longer-term, complex initiatives.
The Senior Manager will be able to operate independently, as well as an alchemist’s mix of strategic vision and a willingness to roll up her / his sleeves and execute that vision as an individual contributor. This position will have the resources of working with a public relations agency and reports to the Sr. VP of Corporate Communications.
Responsibilities include:
- Propose new, interactive ways to drive engagement and encourage innovation consistent with the Company’s mission, vision, and values
- Initiate and manage internal editorial calendar with long lead times
- Measure and own improvements in employee survey results on internal communications
- Possess journalist-quality writing skills to rapidly and effectively create internal social media posts, company-wide emails, feature articles, executive talking points, blog posts and briefing documents
- Help manage public relations agencies
- Work so closely with Human Resources that they invite you to their team outings (and actually want you to attend)
- Initiate and run employee-facing events such as all-hands meetings
- Facilitate strategic connections and conversations within the organization
- Partner with colleagues within the Communications team to ensure integration of external activities and provide message consistency while keeping employees well informed

- 8+ years total experience directly in employee communications
- Superb writing and editing skills
- Secure public speaker and comfortable speaking truth to executives
- Will understand and balance the needs of many constituents in a wide range of business areas; building and leveraging collaborative relationships will be critical to success
- Experience blending traditional internal communications tactics with social media
- Experience managing PR agency relationships
- Exceptional project management skills and the ability to structure and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously and drive to completion, often with short deadlines
- Approaches everything with drive, urgency and energy. Ability to work well under pressure, achieve results in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, and to thrive under deadlines
- Willingness to roll-up sleeves and get the work, big and small, done
