Assistant General Counsel - Legal & Compliance

To support our growth into new markets, while continuing to evolve and execute ongoing day-to-day legal & compliance tasks, we, at Flywire, are seeking a talented and passionate legal and compliance professional. This individual must have a strong attention to detail with an ability to execute tasks within a small and flexible team.
This will be a varied and all-purpose role with a focus on negotiation of commercial terms with our partners and clients, regulatory reporting, and training and developing new work processes to correlate our compliance program with regulatory requirements. The role is ideally suited for someone who has a number of years of experience in a legal or compliance function either in an innovative payments business or other financial institution. Experience in leading legal projects, commercial negotiations, quickly understanding new ideas and concepts, a background in financial regulation, money services business (MSB)/money transmission and remittance,knowledge of Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and other regulations would also be beneficial.
Key responsibilities:
- Negotiate with external parties on commercial terms and provisions used in our contracts
- Lead projects to understand the legal and regulatory impact of developing new products and services
- Manage outside counsel in a growing international environment
- Develop and enhance our compliance program to ensure it is up to date with the business and evolving regulation and activities are executed in a systematic and consistent way
- Provide periodic updates to banks, regulators and management on the performance of the compliance program
- Coordinate with teams across the company to work on projects to drive the business forward and to also act in a support capacity, addressing any questions they may have
- Support management of legal entities within the Flywire group
- Assess risk in a systematic manner and formulate strategies to mitigate and manage those risks
- Understand and advise on labor law and employment issues in the markets where Flywire does business
- Assist with information security and privacy programs and protections specific to the industry verticals we serve
- Research specific topics of financial regulation or other areas relevant to the business and develop training to be delivered to different teams
- Assist with the preparation for audits and examination responses, including AML audits
- Understand ML, fraud and terrorist financing risks and how these impact our business
Our ideal candidate has:
- 5-10 years of experience in a senior role with responsibility for legal and/or compliance
- Experience in a remittance, money transfer, innovative payments business or financial institution
- Working knowledge and experience of reviewing contracts, licenses, regulatory application forms and other legal documents , as well as an understanding of common legal concepts used
- A track record of execution and completion of projects through to completion
- The ability to lead and provide directional guidance to staff
- Knowledge of AML/CTF regulations
- The ability to organize workload to meet deadlines and manage competing and sometimes changing priorities
- International and multi-language skills are a plus
