Pillar VC is a seed-stage venture capital firm based in Boston. We invest in engineers, researchers, and scientists building solutions to the world’s greatest challenges.

Position Overview

We’re looking for a Workplace & Community Associate to join our Boston-based team. This is the person who makes our 23,000sf Pillar HQ feel like one of the most welcoming, well-run spaces in Boston – for the team, our portfolio founders working alongside us each day, and every guest who walks through our doors.

This role is part workplace experience lead, part community manager, and part operations partner. You’ll be the warm first impression, the person who makes sure the espresso machine is humming, and a key partner to our Director of Event & Operations in executing events and experiences that feel both effortless and unforgettable. The best fit is someone who is deeply hospitality-oriented and who finds satisfaction in the details no one notices until they’re missing. You will report to the Director of Event & Operations and work closely with the full Pillar team.

Key Responsibilities

Be the heart of Pillar HQ

  • Make our office a place everyone wants to be, whether they’re here every day or stopping in for an afternoon meeting.
  • Greet visitors with warmth and polish; be the bright, helpful first impression for founders, LPs, collaborators, and guests entering our space.
  • Keep the space looking and feeling its best: tidy common areas, well-stocked kitchens, and meeting rooms ready to go for the day.

Run the day-to-day office experience

  • Be the point of contact for portfolio companies moving into our space, including managing their onboarding process, allocating desks and managing access, providing a tour on their first day, and modeling the culture of our community.
  • Coordinate daily lunches for the team and maintain snack, beverage, and coffee program.
  • Order office supplies and manage inventory across the space.
  • Manage building guest access and work orders with facilities.
  • Manage and continuously improve processes around the space.
  • Own expense management for office operations and reconcile receipts cleanly each month.

Support events

  • Partner with the Director of Event & Operations on everything we host, from happy hours to founder dinners, annual meetings, and flagship events like Founder Camp and our Thanksgiving Feast.
  • Own event setup and breakdown in the space.
  • Liaise with catering, vendors, and event partners to keep the run-of-show on track.
  • Help guests navigate the building and feel taken care of from arrival to send-off.
  • Provide on-the-ground support during events as needed, including some evenings, early mornings, and the occasional weekend.

Strengthen the Pillar community

  • Build relationships with the founders and entrepreneurs who pass through our space; remember names, preferences, and stories.
  • Help coordinate Pillar swag, kits, and gifting, including inventory, shipping, and fulfillment.
  • Support broader community touchpoints alongside the platform team as they emerge (Slack engagement, founder outreach, etc.).

Essential Skills & Experience

  • 2+ years in a role where hospitality, service, or community was central to the job. Examples include luxury hotels or restaurants, members clubs, luxury gyms or wellness brands (Equinox, Life Time, Barry’s, etc.), coworking and workplace brands (WeWork, Industrious, Convene), or community/member experience roles in fast-moving startups.
  • A natural host: you light up around people, remember details about them, and take pride in making them feel cared for.
  • Sharp eye for the physical environment: you notice the smudge on the glass, wilted flowers, the chair out of place, and you fix it before anyone else sees it.
  • Organized, proactive, and unflappable under pressure, especially on event days when ten things are happening at once.
  • Calm and resourceful when things go sideways; a problem-solver, not a problem-flagger.
  • Comfortable with the operational and administrative side of the role: ordering, expensing, vendor management, and light systems work.
  • Low ego and a strong service mindset: happy to do whatever it takes, whether that’s plating a dinner, lugging a case of wine, or building a process from scratch.
  • Flexible schedule to support occasional early-morning and evening events.

Why Pillar VC

This role is a front-row seat to one of the most interesting communities in Boston: the founders, scientists, and operators building the next generation of category-defining companies. You’ll work alongside experienced investors and operators, and you’ll have real ownership over experiences that touch every part of the firm.

Every person who works at Pillar VC should expect their career to be accelerated through the ownership of clear work products, high expectations, the quality of companies and people in our network, and our active support of your future career endeavors.

Benefits

  • We cover 100% of health and dental insurance (plus some of your deductible)
  • Unlimited vacation policy
  • Commute and wellness benefits
  • Phone reimbursement for business use
  • Free snacks, coffee, and lunch when you’re in the office
