At Kainos, we’re problem solvers, innovators, and collaborators - driven by a shared mission to create real impact. Whether we’re transforming digital services for millions, delivering cutting-edge Workday solutions, or pushing the boundaries of technology, we do it together.

We believe in a people-first culture, where your ideas are valued, your growth is supported, and your contributions truly make a difference. Here, you’ll be part of a diverse, ambitious team that celebrates creativity and collaboration.

Ready to make your mark? Join us and be part of something bigger.

As an Workday FSI Financials Solution Architect at Kainos, you will own the overall finance solution design for financial services and insurance customers. You will translate finance outcomes into decisions about processes, accounting, data and systems, and guide teams through delivery. Alongside customer engagements, you will shape opportunities and strengthen our sector capability through reference designs, reusable assets, and coaching.

We value depth in a relevant subsector and the judgement to draw on specialists.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead discovery and Phase 0 engagements, producing a target architecture, key design decisions, delivery options and a phased roadmap. Make assumptions, dependencies, trade-offs and readiness gaps clear to customer sponsors.
  • Own the end-to-end Financials design, with depth in record to report, the Foundation Data Model (FDM), chart of accounts, work tags, multi-entity and multi-currency accounting, intercompany and reporting.
  • Define how Workday Financials, Prism Analytics and Accounting Center fit alongside operational platforms, specialist accounting engines and reporting tools. Allocate responsibility for accounting generation, data enrichment, reconciliation, and settlement explicitly.
  • Translate sector requirements into practical design choices. For insurance, address premium and claim flows, commissions, reinsurance balances and reporting dimensions with the relevant business and accounting specialists.
  • Establish design governance across functional, data, integration, reporting and security teams. Resolve cross-workstream decisions and ensure designs address control evidence, access, traceability, transaction volumes and operational support.
  • Guide delivery from design through testing, cutover and stabilisation. Review critical configurations and prototypes, challenge unresolved assumptions, and assure reconciliations and readiness evidence before recommending design acceptance.
  • Support the FSI go-to-market and account teams with discovery, demonstrations, proposals and estimates. Explain solution value and delivery risks and agree achievable scope and assumptions with delivery leaders.
  • Develop sector reference architectures, decision guides and recipe cards. Set quality standards for model-tenant scenarios and accelerators, documenting validation, applicability and limitations before reuse.
  • Coach lead consultants and architects, review solution quality and feed delivery lessons into the practice. Assess relevant Workday releases and automation opportunities with the appropriate specialists.

Working relationships and accountability

You will partner with the FSI sector lead, Financials capability and delivery leaders, account teams and customer finance leadership. You own solution coherence on assigned engagements; project managers own the delivery plan and budget, while account leads own commercial relationships. Customer approvals follow the agreed design governance. Time for sector assets and presales will be planned alongside delivery commitments.

Experience and capabilities

We are looking for a finance-led architect who can explain why a design fits the customer, make sound decisions under uncertainty, and remain close enough to the platform to challenge implementation choices.

Essential requirements

  • Substantial Workday Financials experience across multiple deployments, including ownership of cross-functional solution design and experience through go-live or major post-deployment change or significant depth in experience on client-side in a relevant sector.
  • Deep practical knowledge of FDM, financial accounting and reporting, with sufficient breadth across procure to pay, customer to cash, banking and settlement, and assets to manage design dependencies.
  • Direct finance transformation or delivery experience in at least one FSI subsector. Ability to explain how its business model, accounting flows and control requirements change a Workday design.
  • Strong accounting fundamentals, including general ledger and subledger relationships, reconciliations, close and consolidation requirements, and multi-entity or multi-currency reporting.
  • Ability to assess when Prism Analytics and Accounting Center are appropriate, distinguish data preparation from accounting rule execution, and define requirements with specialist delivery teams.
  • Experience assessing integration, migration, security and reporting dependencies, including source data quality, audit trails, reconciliation controls, and the granularity needed for finance reporting.
  • Evidence of leading senior customer workshops, resolving competing requirements, documenting decisions, estimating work, and explaining commercial consequences clearly.
  • Experience coaching consultants and reviewing delivery quality. Relevant current or previous Workday Financials certification, with commitment to maintain or renew the certifications required for the role.

Desirable experience

  • Insurance depth in one or more general insurance, life and pensions, health insurance, broking or reinsurance; understanding of how applicable accounting and regulatory reporting requirements affect finance data.
  • Hands-on delivery experience or certification in Workday Prism Analytics or Accounting Center, including operational data ingestion, accounting rules and reconciliation.
  • A recognised accountancy qualification such as ACA, ACCA, CIMA or CPA, or equivalent professional experience; exposure to Adaptive Planning, Workday Extend or finance automation.
  • Experience building reusable sector assets, leading finance architecture across jurisdictions or supporting customer finance teams after deployment.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
