Volunteer PositionWe are seeking full time and volunteer professional Web Developers. Use your web skills to improve key websites supporting language development and Bible translation work worldwide. Make an impact by getting important information to language workers to improve their work quality and avoid delays.

Summary:
A Web Developer has extensive technical expertise and can work independently or with a team to create, maintain, and update client websites in a variety of formats. Proficiency with JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and web applications and services is essential for succeeding in this role. The web developer will have an immediate impact on our brand and those of our clients, and will help solidify SIL's reputation for quality products and academic excellence. They will work together with the Director to plan upgrades to existing sites, and to map out design and functionality improvements, including selecting the best community plugins and built-in features to build the proposed functionality into the site.
Major Responsibilities:
Builds, designs, and maintains websites and software applications.
Designs, writes, and edits website content.
Executes assignments with the use of web applications, scripts, and programming languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and APIs.
Participate as an integral and enthusiastic part of the team, exhibiting ownership, follow-through, initiative, awareness, and effective communication with peers and management.
Work with the team around a cohesive product roadmap
Minor Responsibilities:
Analyze software requirements by consulting with the user community
Support user community with developer-level support
Write technical reference documentation for managing websites.
Participate in regular project status, planning, partnership, and strategic meetings
Be available to travel to meet with the larger development team at least once per year
Be available to travel biannually to the Language Technology Conference
Participate in professional conferences and meetings
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Demonstrated skills in website development
Demonstrated skills in SEO
Demonstrated skills in WordPress, HTML, and CSS
PHP coding ability - helpful but not required. Our preference is to use popular community modules that will guarantee an easier upgrade path for future versions of the platform. A PHP coder would be welcome to contribute code to existing WordPress modules.

Education and Experience:
Web Developers should have experience in website development and SEO. Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent work experience is preferred, but we care more for a heart and mind that are always learning.
Training and Orientation:
Will complete the initial IT Software Department training program and relevant portions of IT Orientation.
