Members of the Brand Design team bring the Hex brand to life across every customer and employee touchpoint. As our Web Designer, you will lead the Web pillar within Brand Design — owning the strategy, UX/UI, art direction, and execution across our website, documentation surfaces, and other web surfaces.

You’ll operate as both a player/coach and eventually hire + mentor a small web design team as we scale.

About the role

Own and execute the design and experience of Hex’s web surfaces, including our website, documentation site, product launches, and future digital experiences.

This is first and foremost a highly hands-on design role. You’ll own work from concept through final execution, setting an exceptional bar for visual design, UX, typography, interaction, and craft.

You’ll also play a major role in how Hex tells its product story. Working closely with Product Marketing, Content, and Product, you’ll help determine how our product is represented across marketing surfaces: what we show, what we simplify, what deserves interaction or motion, and how design can make complex ideas feel clear and compelling.

While broader web and content strategy is shared across Marketing, this role will own the design and UX strategy of our web experiences, bringing a strong point of view on how structure, interaction, visual hierarchy, and product storytelling come together.

What you’ll do

Design and web experience

  • Own and execute the design and UX of Hex’s website, documentation site, campaign experiences, and future web surfaces.
  • Create exceptional, highly crafted digital experiences from early concept through shipped execution.
  • Establish and maintain visual quality, patterns, interaction principles, and consistency across Hex’s web ecosystem.
  • Continually evolve core surfaces rather than treating the website as a collection of one-off redesign projects.
  • Partner with Marketing on broader web priorities while owning the design perspective on hierarchy, UX, interaction, and how users experience the Hex story.
  • Balance strong systems thinking with the ability to create bespoke moments when the story calls for something more distinctive.

Product launches and storytelling

  • Own and execute the design expression of major product launches alongside Brand and Product Marketing.
  • Translate complex product capabilities into clear, compelling, and memorable visual stories.
  • Participate early in launch and content planning, bringing a design perspective to how a story should unfold rather than simply executing against a finished brief.
  • Develop a strong point of view on how Hex’s product should be depicted across marketing, from product UI and screenshots to demos, diagrams, illustration, conceptual visuals, and interactive experiences.
  • Help determine what needs to be shown, what can be simplified, and which ideas benefit from demonstration rather than explanation.
  • Create repeatable storytelling patterns that allow our product to feel coherent across the homepage, product pages, launches, campaigns, events, and content.
  • Ensure major product moments feel visually clear, differentiated, and unmistakably Hex.

Motion and interaction

  • Use motion and interaction intentionally to clarify ideas, demonstrate product behavior, and make Hex feel alive.
  • Create lightweight motion, product animations, micro-interactions, transitions, and interactive storytelling moments.
  • Establish a strong point of view on where motion adds meaning versus decoration.
  • Explore new ways to make product stories more dynamic and experiential across the web.
  • Partner with motion specialists or external collaborators when an idea requires deeper production support.

Design and UX strategy

  • Bring a strong point of view on how UX, visual hierarchy, interaction, and narrative work together.
  • Help define how different audiences encounter and understand Hex across our marketing surfaces.
  • Partner with Brand, Content, Product Marketing, and Product on content planning, identifying where design can make a story clearer or more compelling.
  • Help determine how information should be structured and sequenced, what deserves emphasis, and what format is best suited to telling a particular product story.
  • Influence how Hex represents an increasingly broad product platform without losing clarity or personality.
  • Identify opportunities to evolve Hex’s digital design language and how we show up in the world.
  • Use research, performance signals, experimentation, and design intuition to continually improve the experience.

Hands-on development

  • Take your own designs all the way into production using HTML, CSS, React/Next.js.
  • Prototype and ship interactive experiences where working directly in the browser produces a better result.
  • Use AI-assisted design and development tools to prototype, explore, and ship high-quality experiences faster.
  • Experiment with emerging AI tools and workflows, with strong judgment about where they improve the work and where craft still needs a human hand.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering partners on larger or more technically complex work.
  • Care deeply about implementation details and ensure the shipped experience reflects the intent of the design.
  • Help establish front-end patterns and workflows that make high-quality execution faster and more repeatable.
  • Balance creative ambition with performance, accessibility, maintainability, and speed.

Team and creative influence

  • Influence the processes, standards, critique rituals, and creative culture of the Design team.
  • Help establish stronger ways of working across Brand, Product Marketing, Product Design, Content, and Engineering.
  • Bring external inspiration and new thinking into how Hex approaches digital design and product storytelling.
  • Identify where additional design, motion, or engineering support could have the greatest impact.
About you

You might be a great fit if you:

  • Have 8+ years of experience across web, visual, UI, or digital product design.
  • Have exceptional hands-on craft across UX, typography, interaction, and visual systems.
  • Are a strong product storyteller, particularly for technical, B2B, developer, data, or product-led companies.
  • Think strategically about design and UX and can connect creative decisions to audience, narrative, product, and business goals.
  • Have a strong eye for motion and interaction.
  • Can ship production-quality work in HTML, CSS, and React/Next.js.
  • Are curious and capable with AI-assisted design and development workflows.
  • Operate autonomously and are comfortable owning work from concept through launch.

In addition to our unique culture, Hex proudly offers a competitive total rewards package, including but not limited to, market-benched salary & equity, comprehensive health benefits, and flexible paid time off.
