Job Description:

Are you a driven, student journalist eager to work in an award-winning newsroom before your senior year? The Wall Street Journal Social Video internship offers an unparalleled opportunity for college juniors to gain practical work experience in our award-winning newsrooms in New York with mentorship and tailored training sessions. Graduate students enrolled in a degree program by the application deadline – October 31 – who are returning to school in the fall are also eligible to apply. Graduating seniors should apply to WSJ News Associates.

You will:

  • Work with our team to produce vertical videos for platforms such as Instagram, TikTok and LinkedIn.
  • Be involved in all steps of production: conceptualization, reporting, scripting, shooting and editing. This team works directly with reporters and editors around the newsroom, as well as our video team to create engaging short, social-first breaking news and original videos.

You have:

  • Experience with video editing software, including Premiere Pro, After Effects, Adobe InDesign and/or other relevant tools. Animation skills are a plus, and so is comfort being on-camera.
  • A deep knowledge of video-driven social platforms.
  • Completed at least one prior journalism internship with another professional media organization or published exceptional work with a campus news outlet or as a freelancer.

We are looking for ambitious students who think foremost about the audience and are able to work independently under deadline pressure. You don’t need to be a business or economics expert, but a commitment to high journalistic standards and excellent video editing skills are a must.

HOW TO APPLY:

Please upload one PDF document (max. 5MB); You may upload a second PDF with your work examples if the files are large. Your application document should contain:

  • A cover letter highlighting why you would be an asset to the team.
  • Your résumé.
  • Three examples of your published work detailing your specific role in the reporting and production.  You may include links for video work samples.

The deadline to apply is Oct. 31 at midnight Eastern time. Late or incomplete submissions will not be considered.

Internship timing: 10 weeks between June and August.

Only finalists will be contacted. We will review applications on a rolling basis and strive to make selections by the end of January.

  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
