  • Drive operational excellence through rigorous planning and measurement, effective incident management, and accelerated product velocity.
  • Lead capacity planning and organizational design to maximize engineering throughput and organizational health.
  • Set and manage clear KPIs for engineering velocity, product quality, system reliability, and team health while demonstrating measurable progress over time.
  • Serve as a key member of the senior leadership team, driving cross-functional alignment and influencing both tactical and strategic decisions.
  • Rigorously evaluate and adopt new technologies where strategically beneficial.
  • Ensure the security, scalability, and reliability of systems and infrastructure.

What You Will Need to Succeed

  • 10+ years of industry experience, preferably in technology-first companies delivering direct-to-consumer customer experiences that leverage data science models as a fundamental component of the product.
  • A strong, practical technical foundation with the desire and skill to dig deep into architectural and technical challenges as needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, communicate, and deliver long-range technical strategy, with a strong record of execution.
  • Passion for engineering operations and excellence in areas like capacity planning, process design, measurement, and incident management.
  • A proven track record of hiring and developing world-class engineering talent and leadership.
  • Executive-level communication skills, with the ability to align stakeholders across technical and business domains.
  • A deep appreciation for and track record of balancing product delivery with long-term technical investments.
  • Experience supporting data science efforts through ML engineering and MLOps.
  • Proven ability to evaluate, test, and integrate emerging technologies into large-scale, complex systems.

What you need to know about the Boston Tech Scene

Boston is a powerhouse for technology innovation thanks to world-class research universities like MIT and Harvard and a robust pipeline of venture capital investment. Host to the first telephone call and one of the first general-purpose computers ever put into use, Boston is now a hub for biotechnology, robotics and artificial intelligence — though it’s also home to several B2B software giants. So it’s no surprise that the city consistently ranks among the greatest startup ecosystems in the world.

Key Facts About Boston Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 269,000; 9.4% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Thermo Fisher Scientific, Toast, Klaviyo, HubSpot, DraftKings
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, biotechnology, robotics, software, aerospace
  • Funding Landscape: $15.7 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Summit Partners, Volition Capital, Bain Capital Ventures, MassVentures, Highland Capital Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: MIT, Harvard University, Boston College, Tufts University, Boston University, Northeastern University, Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory, National Bureau of Economic Research, Broad Institute, Lowell Center for Space Science & Technology, National Emerging Infectious Diseases Laboratories
