THE ROLE

Flagship Pioneering is seeking a strategic and entrepreneurial leader to drive internal portfolio development within the Enabling Technologies (ET) Initiative, with a primary focus on advancing the Thermo Fisher Scientific partnership. This individual will develop and manage internal and external partnerships to seed, build, and scale new bioplatform companies and capabilities that enable Flagship’s pioneering science and technology ecosystem.

The role requires a blend of scientific and business acumen, a passion for value creation in the life sciences, and the ability to build trusted relationships across diverse internal teams and external partners.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Portfolio Development:
    Drive internal portfolio strategy and development for the Enabling Technologies Initiative. Identify, seed, and resource new bioplatform opportunities that leverage enabling science and technology capabilities.
  • Partnership Management:
    Serve as the primary alliance lead for the Thermo Fisher partnership, overseeing joint pipeline activities, partner engagement, and governance implementation. Build further collaboration on existing and emerging ET companies.
  • Internal Collaboration:
    Partner closely with Flagship Pioneering Business Units (PBUs) and internal functions (Finance, BD, Capital Solutions, Communications) to maximize the impact of enabling technology partnerships and ensure alignment across the portfolio.
  • External Partnership Leverage:
    Collaborate with external partners to enhance and scale bioplatform capabilities, ensuring that partnerships deliver strategic, scientific, and business value.
  • Ecosystem Building:
    Create structures, resources, and forums to advance the broader portfolio of enabling technologies and foster cross-functional connectivity and innovation.
  • Value Creation:
    Appreciate the unique needs, models, and value-creation strategies of each ET company and work to enable success across distinct functions and stages of growth.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience:
    • Deep experience as an industry executive and/or consultant in life sciences, biotech, or related enabling technology sectors.
    • Demonstrated credibility and ability to engage with senior internal and external stakeholders.
  • Education:
    • Advanced degree in engineering or a scientific discipline required.
    • MBA or equivalent business experience strongly preferred.
  • Skills & Attributes:
    • Proven ability to identify and drive business and scientific opportunities that lead to new value creation.
    • Strong understanding of business models, partnerships, JVs, BD, and M&A approaches.
    • Exceptional relationship builder with the ability to bridge science, strategy, and execution.
    • Entrepreneurial mindset and passion for pioneering innovation to deliver human and planetary health benefits.

The salary range for this role is $252,000 - $346,500. Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience. Flagship Pioneering currently offers healthcare coverage, annual incentive program, retirement benefits and a broad range of other benefits. Compensation and benefits information is based on Flagship Pioneering's good faith estimate as of the date of publication and may be modified in the future.
