The VP of Business Development is responsible for maintaining and building existing client relationships while pursuing and closing new business opportunities for their respective division(s) and product lines. The VP will review and conduct market research to identify partnership opportunities while also proactively growing their industry specific network. The incumbent will lead our growth strategy and help achieve our development goals in collaboration with leaders across the organization while providing strategic advice to clients and internal stakeholders.
Essential Functions
- Build collaborative internal and external relationships to provide the best in client advice and service
- Develop the business to ensure a seamless experience for the client who has multiple products and services
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the client in delivering comprehensive and customized business banking products and solutions tailored to the financial needs and circumstances of business clients
- Manage a portfolio of clients; grow portfolio by prospecting for new clients and deepening relationships with existing clients
- Identify, recommend and promote products and solutions that will benefit the client in addition to the needs of the company
- Build relationships by calling on existing clients to truly understand their businesses and analyze product and service growth opportunities that ensures profitability of portfolio
- Utilize referral networks and centers of influence to identify and pursue potential new clients, looking for ways to cultivate a long-term relationship
- Manage a disciplined marketing process by identifying steps/strategies necessary to effectively maintain and build relationships with clients and prospects
- This position requires frequent travel (up to 20-40% on average throughout the year)
- Perform other duties as assigned
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing to accurately convey messages and influence others.
- Able to make complex and time sensitive decisions
- Ability to work both independently as well as collaboratively to network and call on resources/contacts to successfully achieve objectives
- Ability to work in a demanding, deadline-driven environment while handling multiple projects simultaneously
- Possess a customer service mindset with an understanding of what internal and external clients are looking for with strong negotiation skills
- Strong knowledge of mortgage credit underwriting, and capital markets, loss mitigation and foreclosure
- Knowledge of diverse types of businesses, industries, markets, financial and economic concepts
- Commitment and ability to cultivate a diverse and inclusive work environment.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, business or a related field is preferred; the equivalent amount of experience will be considered in lieu.
Experience
- 8+ years of experience in a business banking relationship management role or related business development
- Proven experience of developing relationships with stakeholders at all levels within an organization
- Must have strong experience and proficiency with Salesforce or other Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platforms
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products
Compensation and Benefits
Covius offers an extensive benefits package for all employees, including medical, dental, vision and 401(k)!
Compensation: $112,000 to $140,000 annualized in addition to a sales commission plan

Working Conditions
This is a remote position. Employees are expected to maintain a dedicated and professional workspace that supports productivity and confidentiality. This requires reliable internet access and the ability to be on camera to participate in virtual meetings and communications during standard business hours. Work is primarily performed in a home office environment. Flexible work hours may be available, though employees must be able to collaborate effectively across time zones and attend scheduled meetings during core business hours. May require extended periods of computer use and sitting. Occasional travel or in-person meetings may be required based on business needs. Occasional overtime, weekend shifts, or holiday work may be required based on operational needs. Employees must adhere to company policies regarding data security, time tracking, and virtual collaboration.
Physical Demands and Activities
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to communicate. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and constantly operate a computer and other office equipment using hands and fingers for fine manipulation, including keyboarding and mouse use. The employee must occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, such as files and small parcels and/or move boxes weighing up to 15 lbs. Prolonged periods of sitting or standing may be required depending on the nature of the work. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to observe objects at close range in presence of glare or bright lighting (e.g. computer screen).
