Team Description

We’re a mission-driven, fast-growing team of technologists, data scientists, and insurance professionals passionate about saving lives and reducing the human and financial toll of workplace injuries. You’ll join a collaborative and entrepreneurial leadership team committed to scaling CompScience’s impact across industries and geographies. The VP of Business Development (BD) will lead and scale CompScience’s go-to-market growth engine by managing a rapidly growing BD organization (starting with eight direct reports). This role owns regional and national revenue growth strategies, manages key agency and broker relationships, and ensures execution against aggressive revenue and partnership goals. The VP will manage the BD team and act as the bridge between the BD team, underwriting, marketing, and the executive team.

Job Responsibilities
  • Own and evolve the GTM strategy to drive revenue growth across multiple customer segments.

  • Build and lead a high-performing BD and sales team, focused on delivering results and developing scalable systems.

  • Develop and execute structured sales processes that generate leads and close deals in partnership with underwriting.

  • Translate data into strategic sales insights, optimizing for both customer success and revenue performance.

  • Establish and grow relationships with key partners, including agencies, agency offices, and insurance brokers within the Worker Compensation Insurance Vertical.

  • Represent CompScience in the field—building relationships, identifying opportunities, and closing deals nationwide.

Required Qualifications
  • Has successfully built and scaled the business development function at a fast-growing MGA with delegated authority or with insurance carrier.

  • Proven track record of leading $50M+ in new business acquisition/

  • 10+ years of middle and large market commercial insurance sales or BD experience, with at least 5 in a leadership capacity managing distributed teams

  • Demonstrated success in executing on GTM strategy and building scalable systems from the ground up.

  • Experience leading and scaling business development teams in high-growth environments.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate sales data into strategy.

  • Experience thriving in the early-stage with high growth.

  • Willingness and excitement to travel 35%+ to engage with partners and customers in person.

  • Exceptional storytelling and consultative selling skills.

  • Deep, active relationships with insurance agencies and brokers within the Workers’ Comp space.
